Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4D Overview

Characterized by its fast design and compact profile, the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4D from Nikon is a versatile normal-length prime for everyday shooting. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also helps achieve shallow depth of field and selective focus effects. A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements, and reduces lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy when working in bright and backlit conditions. Also, a rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Normal-length prime lens is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.
Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is well-suited to working in low-light environments and also affords extensive control over depth of field for using selective focus techniques.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Autofocus system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses, and offers quick and precise focusing performance.

Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4D Reviews

Amazing lens build like a rock ... 20 years and counting.

I bought this lens from B&H 20 years ago. It has captured many of my most precious family and vacation pictures over the years. It is built like a rock. During one of our trips to Yosemite National Park, I accidentally dropped this lens from a bridge, and it survived a 15-foot fall without any damage. Probably the rubber lens hood attached to it saved it from the fall. I have used this lens on several film SLRs, two DSLRs, and most recently on my new Z8 with an FTZ adapter. It still takes amazing pictures with beautiful bokeh. Does this look good to you? 😊

As advertised

question

is it compatible with d5200?
Asked by: Martin R.
Yes and no. Yes, if you are ok to only use manual focus. The D5200 body has no built in autofocus motor to drive the lens. You'll need to use the more modern g nikon lenses for autofocus.

What is the difference between this lens and the Nikkor 50mm 1.4G AF?
Asked by: McKay
"G" lenses are gelded, to cut costs Nikon eliminated manual aperture control (apreture ring). "D" lenses still have the aperture ring, so you can use them with older cameras or if the camera can not control aperture in the lens. Generally, "G" lenses are bigger, have more plastic and have different design than "D" lenses. For digital cameras it does not really make much difference, only if you are still using certain older models, like N55.

This lense for DF ?
Asked by: PRAVIN
The AF NIKKOR 50 1,4 is the old standard lens mount. I would think it naturally would fit the DF, but you should check the DF users manual to be sure.
