Audio-Technica AT8015 overview

  • 1Description

The AT8015 from Audio-Technica is a line gradient condenser, phantom or battery powered, shotgun microphone with ideal sound rejection from the sides and rear of the mic to capture audio over long distances. It can be used in various environments for applications such as videos, TV broadcasts, and ENG (Electronic News Gathering) productions.

It features a roll-off position switch that reduces the pickup of low-frequency ambient noise like traffic, room reverberation, and mechanically coupled vibrations. The microphone comes with a stand clamp, a 5/8" to 3/8" adapter, a windscreen, an AA battery, and a protective carrying case.

    Audio-Technica AT8015 reviews

AT8015 Line and Gradient Condenser Shotgun Microphone is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An overall excellent microphone I've used a few other microphones, and for the purpose of getting quality audio from a large distance, this is by far the best. The large size allows it to get a great directional sound that rarely needs any tuning in post. It's simple to set up. The battery is included and all you have to do is plug the XLR cable in and go. Of course most mics work like this, but I've seen some that are more complicated. The only complaint is probably the size. With it being so large, it makes it so that many accessories cannot be used from other mics and it may be unwieldily to bring everywhere. However, this is a great product at a great price and I would definitely recommend it for anyone from enthusiast to professional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for recording Church Choirs in the Sanctuary I am using a set of these microphones in the sanctuary of our church to be able to record the various church choirs that perform during service. They are located on the front of the balcony at the back of the church (approximately 50 feet away). Since I have a relatively quite environment, these microphones help to provide a very quiet background so I can enhance the audio very easily without worrying about the noise floor coming up and ruining the sound. They also allow me to do the recording without having to have hanging microphones are stand based microphones which would be intrusive to the sanctuary decor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Audio-Technica Shotgun AT8015 This microphone is used for audio testing in different venues and has performed admirably. The results have been as expected and better. The balance and overall quality makes this a mic to own. As is usual with most microphones of this size, the case could be a little more substantial, but that is to be expected. The best thing of all is that with one AA battery you can use this mic without phantom power. Great when recording on the fly with simple equipment, or for non-pro purposes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mic for selective pickup Works well for isolating sounds in high noise environments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Precision microphone at a great price Best Shotgun I've used for the money, especially in a high noise area. I used it on a Motorcycle Doc and we interviewed riders sitting on their bike with the motor running and still got clear dialog. The level could be a little hotter, but not much of a concern. The over caveat is when booming great care must be made to keep the mike pointing toward the mouths of the speakers/subjects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great MIC! this mic is great for anything you need audio wise. The only problem with it that I have is that it's HUGE! But whatever as long as it gets good audio who really cares? I mean this will get professional audio and you'll be happy with it. Just make sure you hook your actor or actress up with a lav mic as well because those are important to getting good audio!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the price I've used this on a variety of films and commercial shoots. Its ok. Very low output level. I thought it sounded good until I put it up next to a Rode NTG-3. When compared the AT8015 sounded thin and weak. Not exactly apple to apples, though. For the price its a good mic, and very good at rejecting off-axis sounds.
