Genaray Studio 500 overview

  • 1Description

The SpectroLED Studio 500 Daylight LED Light by Genaray is built around a 500 LED panel with an LCD touch screen that gives you easy control of light intensity from 100 to 0%. Generay includes a wireless remote control with a range of 65' for lights mounted overhead or at a distance. The SpectroLED Studio 500 offers a 60° flood beam angle and a high CRI of >93 for precise color rendering.

The kit includes the 13.58 x 7.48 x 2.75" panel, a ratchet-handled mounting knuckle that can be repositioned anywhere along the grooved panel edge. A multi-voltage AC adapter, 2 cable straps and a diffusion filter to soften the light's output are also included, as is a daylight to tungsten conversion filter. It all fits in the kit's soft-sided carry case with a shoulder strap.

Designed primarily for the studio, the SpectroLED Studio 500 features a large LCD touchscreen to control 100-0% dimming with negligible color shift. Alternatively, you can control the light wirelessly via the included remote control. Constructed entirely of metal, the light features an integrated carry handle and textured, reflective 4-way barndoors with gel clips that fold flush to the fixture to protect the array during transport. The panel frame is channeled on all 4 sides to allow repositioning of the mounting knuckle to facilitate vertical or horizontal orientation.

You can use the included multi-voltage AC adapter with right-angle input virtually anywhere in the world or use an optional V-mount or Anton Bauer battery plate with pro batteries when mains power is not available. Control, flexible features, portability, and remote control make the Studio 500 Daylight LED Light a smart choice.

    Genaray Studio 500 reviews

SpectroLED Studio 500 Daylight LED Light is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought two, happy that I did Note: I am not a full time professional but I use professional equipment, I like good values on quality equipment. I record some shows in a professional studio and some product interviews in an office, along with run and gun interviews at conferences or similar events. Now, onto the lights, I love 'em, surprising good construction, excellent design that includes a strong set of barn doors AND clips to attach gels. I have used c-47's/wood clothes pins, scotch tape and similar temporary attachments but these clips are just so convenient. I have other LED's from Dracast, and florescent softboxes which work fine, but these SpectroLED's are, for me, a pleasure to use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great fixture but nowhere close to 5600K I just ordered a couple of these and love everything except the strong magenta shift. If you're mixing these with Kinosor any light that outputs a true 5600Kbe prepared to gel the heck out these with plus green. Built quality is great. Output level and punchiness are about comparable to a Diva 400. Light quality is nowhere near that of a Kino but if you could afford a Kino you probably wouldn't be reading this. Overall value is not bad. I love the carrying case and the magnetic diffusion filters that come with the kit. The remote is very handy and allows you to dim, turn on/off and quickly step down in increments of 25%. The remote is also somewhat flimsy, so I have a feeling ours will be broken by the first shoot. The remotes do seem to be independent to their respective light. In other words, one remote does not control all lights at the same time, but, rather, only the light with which it came, which is great. Buy some velcro to attach the power adaptor to the rear body of the light so it doesn't dangle 3 feet below the fixture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from SpectroLED studio 500 We've used the Studio 500 as a key light on an interview shoot and it looked pretty good. There's a definite improvement in spectrum from their round lights, which have a strong green spike. But I'm not sure they would actually rate a 93 CRI, since they've used LEDs with a definite pinkish hue to compensate for green spike. Not happy to see that the same light is also sold by Ikan, since Gradus told me they produced them internally. Gradus Group has been pretty responsive to issues with their other products, seem to honore the 1 yr warranty. I'm not thrilled about relying on electronics and not mechanical knobs for adjusting luminescence. The remote is handy. The clips for filters on the barn doors are difficult to manage and the doors seem to have no other purpose since this is a panel light with dimmers and the doors don't really alter angle or diffusion that effectively.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality build and performance Purchased this for filming reality show confessionals. Functionality is simple and direct via on device or with supplied remote. Has 2 convenient magnetic snap-on filters, along with all surround (vertical and horizontal) barn doors to add your own gels. 12 squares fit perfectly. The quality of the build of this totally solid. The light itself is even and bright. And the ability to stack another same model 500 LED (unit)on top - for a total of 1000 LED's, makes this ideal for any situation. .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact and easy to use I use the light when I shoot interviews, How To and product photography. I like the fact that I can get three of theses lights in a small box and bring my gear into a client's space on one cart. It makes being a one man show much easier on the back. I would like to see folks make light modifiers for these style of lights that are a compact as the lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright and Cool with Remote Control! I needed a tall backlight to highlight talent and product in training videos. I shoot in a cavernous warehouse, with a 12-foot tall backdrop, and I needed to flood the scene in front of the drop with light. yet be able to barn-door easily to prevent spill. This works great, and the remote control is perfect since I don't want to climb a ladder to make adjustments. Plus it color-matches well with the Genaray SpectroLED Three Light Interview Kit that I bought from B&H a few years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy! love these lights and the remotes and stands are perfect for continuous lighting needs. We don't use the touch screens since the remotes work faster and easier and can only change the lighting output with this model so not sure why they would include the 5600k color tab as large as the lighting option on the touchscreen when it's not adjustable, but overall a great buy and quality equipment. Would definitely recommend!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good power/features but bad color I'm trying to decide whether to return these or not. They're bright but they produce a nasty magenta color. Out of the box, the color balance is closer to 4200 than 5600 (see photo) so you have to 'plus-green' them to get rid of the magenta cast and then CTB them to get them to 5600. That's a lot of work to get them to do what they're advertised as doing. Other than that, they're built well and look cool.
