Genaray Spectro LED Overview

  • 1Description

The SpectroLED Studio 1000 Bi-Color LED Light by Genaray is built around a 1012 LED panel with an LCD touch screen that gives you easy control of light intensity from 100 to 0%. Generay includes a wireless remote control with a range of 65' for lights mounted overhead or at a distance. The SpectroLED Studio 1000 offers a 60° flood beam angle and a high CRI of >93 for precise color rendering.

The kit includes the 13.6 x 13.6 x 2.75" panel and a ratchet-handled mounting knuckle that can be repositioned anywhere along the grooved panel edge. A multi-voltage AC adapter, 2 cable straps and a diffusion filter to soften the light's output are also included, as is a daylight to tungsten conversion filter. It all fits in the kit's soft-sided carry case with a shoulder strap.

Designed primarily for the studio, the SpectroLED Studio 1000 features a large LCD touchscreen to control 100-0% dimming with negligible color shift. Alternatively, you can control the light wirelessly via the included remote control. Constructed entirely of metal, the light features an integrated carry handle and textured, reflective 4-way barndoors with gel clips that fold flush to the fixture to protect the array during transport. The panel frame is channeled on all 4 sides to allow repositioning of the mounting knuckle.

You can use the included multi-voltage AC adapter with right-angle input virtually anywhere in the world or use an optional V-mount or Anton Bauer battery plates with pro batteries when mains power is not available. Control, flexible features, portability, and remote control make the Studio 1000 Daylight LED light a smart choice.

    Genaray Spectro LED Reviews

SpectroLED Studio 1000 Daylight LED Light is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expect to be Using for Years to Come I've used a lot of LED lights over the last few years, and I've come across only a few that are as well-built and sturdy as the Genaray SpectroLED SP-S-1000D Daylight Studio LED Light. Let's start with the unit's screen and mounting hardware. I found the large display screen on the back of the unit very easy to read. The relatively large numbers on the screen mean that I could even read it if it was mounted at a height of about 8 feet off the ground. The included remote is a great accessory, which allows me to control the light from a distance. Apart from the power adapter, there are just two pieces that needed to be put together for mounting on a light stand: The main light with its barn doors (they are already attached), and the tilting head that attaches to any of the four sides of the light's housing via a very strong and well-thought-out slot system. Now onto the unit's light output: I was very impressed by the quality and the quantity of the light that comes out of the square fixture (93+ CRI and 6600 lux at 3 ft (0.9 m) according to their specs), and being able to adjust the power from 10-100% allows me to really dial down the power when I don't need it. I especially like the very sturdy, yet easily adjustable barn doors that come with the light. They can be adjusted to control the light in many different ways. An added design feature is the ability to remove the textured silver metal inserts from the black barn doors to create less spill/reflected light. However, it's important to be careful when doing that because the silver metal inserts have some sharp edges. The clips on the barn doors can also be used to hold diffusion material, which is very useful and avoids the need for gaffer tape. The sturdy soft-sided case that's provided fits the unit, its power supply, wireless remote and well-made, magnetic acrylic diffusion/tungsten filters (one diffusion filter and one 3200K orange tungsten filter) perfectly. The case also has a comfortable shoulder strap, which I expect to use when I'm moving gear around on location. I like the way the filters grab onto the corners of the LED array using magnets. It is a bit tricky getting them off, but I found that pulling them off from the top left with my left hand pointer finger, and using my right hand to help avoid dropping the filter worked best. The total length of the AC cords is very long (over 10 feet), which is useful because it will help to reduce the need for an extension cord in many locations. Re: the remote, it is very functional, but a bit unconventional in my opinion. It has just four letters on it: A for increasing power, B for decreasing power, C for cycling between 100-25% in 25% increments, and D to put the lights into sleep mode or wake them up. Holding the A and B buttons adds an audio confirmation tone when the lights reach their highest and lowest brightness level, which can be helpful. The remote can also sync with multiple units, but I didn't test that feature since I only have one. The remote has a telescoping antenna, but it wasn't needed for the distances I tested up to about 20 feet away. I don't like the fact that the wireless remote takes a 23 A, 12 Volt battery (I would prefer one or two AAAs), and I also don't like that a mini screwdriver is needed to open the back of the remote. Although the light does not come with a hole for an umbrella, I found an easy way to use a lightweight white translucent umbrella by just placing the umbrella's metal shaft between the handle area at the top of the light (photo is included in the review). A piece or two of gaffer tape would then help a lot to keep it much more stabilized. That offered an easy, adjustable way to add a lot of diffusion/softening to the light, and I really like the quality of light I'm getting for portraits and still-life work. I also like that an optional battery pack is available (Sony V-Type or Anton Bauer Gold battery with an optional battery plate). All in all, I'm very happy with the performance of the light, and I expect to be using it for many years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright LED with Barndoors!! The color was spot on with this LED, and I really love the way you can dim it all the way down with the touch screen. I havent used it with gels yet but like the clips that will keep me from using gaff tape and making the lights all sticky. The barn doors double for me as protection if I dont want to put in the nice case it comes with. I like that this is flicker free and have used it for several videos with much success! The provides diffusers are nice but not sure I will use them much, this will likely never leave the studio. Although it is still portable if I ever needed it outside of the studio. Lots of light in a super sturdy case!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressive light The first thing I did was to test output and I was very pleasantly surprised. Whether using this light for video or photography, it performs really well. Output is extremely impressive. Build is good and I like that the barn doors have clips for gels or additional modification of the light. Using a frost or soft diffusion gel creates some really soft, even, beautiful light. Being able to attach the mount on any side is pretty cool and allows you to keep the display upright so it's readable. I think the mount could be improved. I would also point out that the remote control could be a lot better and should have a display that provides feedback. In the world of compromise, the few things I don't care for don't take away from the power and usefulness of this light, in and out of the studio.
