Genaray SpectroLED overview

  • 1Description

The SpectroLED Studio 500 Bi-Color LED Light by Genaray is built around a 500 LED panel with an LCD touch screen that gives you easy control of color variable from 3200 to 5600K, as well as 100-10% dimming. Generay includes a wireless remote control with a range of 65' for lights mounted overhead or at a distance. The SpectroLED Studio 500 offers a 60° flood beam angle and a high CRI of >93 for precise color rendering.

The kit includes the 13.58 x 7.48 x 2.75" panel, a ratchet-handled mounting knuckle that can be repositioned anywhere along the grooved panel edge. A multi-voltage AC adapter, 2 cable straps and a diffusion filter to soften the light's output are also included. It all fits in the kit's soft-sided carry case with a shoulder strap.

Designed primarily for the studio, the SpectroLED Studio 500 features a large LCD touchscreen for adjusting color temperature from 3200-5600K so that you can quickly match other light sources or create effects to suit your needs without fumbling for filters. Dimming the light intensity from 100-10% with negligible color shift is just as easy whether you make your adjustments on the back panel or wirelessly via the included wireless remote control. Constructed entirely of metal, the light features an integrated carry handle and textured, reflective 4-way barndoors with gel clips that fold flush to the fixture to protect the array during transport. The panel frame is channeled on all 4 sides to allow repositioning of the mounting knuckle to facilitate vertical or horizontal orientation.

You can use the included multi-voltage AC adapter with right-angle input virtually anywhere in the world or use an optional V-mount or Anton Bauer battery plate with pro batteries when mains power is not available. Control, flexible features, portability, and remote control make the Studio 500 Bi-Color LED Light a smart choice.

    Genaray SpectroLED reviews

SpectroLED Studio 500 Bi-Color LED Light is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from SpectroLED 500 BiColor runs cool, looks a little pink I got 2 of these lights in a kit with stands. Compared to the Genaray 360 bicolor I already had, these tend a little pink. Also they're smaller than I was expecting based on the numbers (360 v 500 LEDs) and B&H's images. In my totally unscientific assessment, it doesn't seem like they put out much more light than the 360. Also, the touchscreen controls on the back are clunkier than the simple knob design on the 360. BUT, being small and light is really nice. Each lamp comes in a tight little strappy case. Easy to carry around. The quality of light is nice and soft. Once I get batteries to go along, these will be super handy to have for run-and-gun exterior shoots too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BETTER THAN EXPECTED! I was really attracted to the bi-color ability on this light for flexibility but was really concerned about brightness. After I got them, I was WAY less concerned. They do a decent job when paired together to compete with a window even. I shoot in a lot of mixed lighting situations, so it really helps that I can dial it in. If you did know this was going to be a daylight only kit, I might suggest the daylight kit as it is double the brightness. The build quality is amazing and the remote is an understated feature. Being able to pair lights to it and adjust brightness and color simultaneously is awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with these! We've had these for about a month now and....these lights are pretty awesome. Pros: Easy setup/tear down, nice cases for protection during transport, great light output with flexible adjustments to get what you need, barn doors are excellent for helping to control light direction in certain situations. Nice and cool, our studio no longer heats up from hot bulbs making it uncomfortable! Cons: Power cords have a box on them (similar to a laptop) that dangles about half way down when stands are extended. Not a biggie, but when we are moving around the lights a lot during a shoot, I feel like I need to grab onto it to keep it from banging around. The stands have a littl sway to them, but what can you expect. I wish the batteries were less expensive and you didn't need to purchase a plate to attach them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased, my honest thoughts... I bought these lights for 2 reasons, first I wanted to use them as rim and key lights for photographing products/fashion shoots, but mostly I needed a strong enough flicker free light source for my video production work. I have been consistently using them for about a month now, and have come to really enjoy working with these more than I expected to. I was nervous about purchasing LED based continuous lights, but that fear was laid to rest after I started working with these I bought 2 . Build Quality - - - Very nice, removable tripod clamp is a stand alone piece that can attach to all 4 sides of the head. The barn doors are metal and thick enough to feel like I purchased a quality piece of equipment, the hinges are very sturdy, and have a firmness you will appreciate. The LED's are exposed until you put the included cover over them. I took the liberty of touching the LED's to see if they were seated nicely - and I will say that they felt really solid !!! Another nice touch was the included carry case, not flimsy, just tough enough to feel protected in travel. The body of the light is plastic, but feel tough enough to be banged around, and I'm happy its not something heavier, light weight for traveling is something I appreciate. Features - - - It has controllable color temp and power output. You control these by the touch screen display on the rear of the panel which is very easy to use. I think I would prefer turn dials a little more due to the quickness of turning a dial vs. holding my finger down on a touch screen and waiting for it to go from 10% to 100%, which takes about 10 seconds - not that bad but I'm just stating it since it crossed my mind. However the touch screen does look cool on set and in studio when I have clients around me. The way the color balance works is that 250 of the LED's are cool temp, and 250 of them are warm. So if you are at your coolest or warmest settings only 250 of the LED's are actually on. A setting of about 4400-4800K using all 500 LED's yielded the strongest light output. I was able to comfortably film at ISO400 F5.6 on my Canon 5D Mark III with both of these lights about 10-12 feet away in a dark studio, and as low as ISO100 for my close ups and cropped shots. The lights benefit from a slight diffusion removing any evidence of LED patterns during close ups. Overall then 500's are great for the price, and I would strongly suggest the 2 light kit over a single 1000 series light for the same price. You can stack them easily if you need the 1000 light effect, but with 2 you get the added bonus of separating them, giving much more diversity. I'm not the easiest to please, so I congratulate Genaray on a job well done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lights These lights are great, both for in-studio or on the go shooting. I use one of htese lights at 100% as a key light and a second one at 30-50% to fill in. They work very well for our video interview needs and look very professional which is always a good added value with corporate clients. I love the fact you can quickly change color temp. It really makes a difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great studio light I purchased this light through a recommendation from a fellow painter. The primary application for my needs is a studio light for oil painting, tattooing and occasionally for painting models from life. It's lightweight, sturdy and adjustable. As an oil painter and tattooist, having the option to adjust the color balance is a luxury that's definitely worth the cost. The only real con for me is no on off switch on the remote. I would prefer to keep the light fixed on the light stand, rather than have to lower it up and down a few times a day. We have been using a 4-5 Lowel Tota lights with umbrella's at each tattoo station, the con being too much heat in a room with no ceiling insulation. Slowly switching to the Genaray lights seems like a viable adjustment.
