The software also offers advanced RAID configuration, firmware updates, and event logging.

Houses up to Two 3.5" SATA I/II/III Hard Disk Drives
The Xcellon DRD-101 Dual-Bay RAID System houses up to two 3.5" SATA I/II/III hard disk drives, making it a great solution for large-data storage needs. It helps maintain a tidy workstation by consolidating your disks in a single enclosure instead of cluttering your desk with individual external drives.
Four RAID Modes Configurable by DIP Switches or Software
Four RAID modes, configurable by the DIP switches on the rear of the enclosure or via the included software, offer a variety of options for managing and backing up your data. Choose from RAID 0 and 1, as well as Normal (JBOD), Span (Big/Large), and Clone modes, to handle striping, mirroring, redundancy, and parity.
Software for Advanced Operations
Included software helps you manage your RAID systems and installed hardware. View information about the current RAID mode and the hard disks installed in the enclosure, set multiple RAID modes in an enclosure, view and save event logs, update firmware, and configure RAID settings. The software is available for both Windows and Mac operating systems.
USB 3.0 and eSATA Ports
The DRD-101 is equipped with USB 3.0 and eSATA ports and comes with high-speed connection cables, making it easy to connect the enclosure to most computers.
Maximum Transfer Rates of up to 5.0 Gbps
When plugged into your computer's USB 3.0 port, the DRD-101 can attain transfer rates of up to 5.0 Gbps via the included USB 3.0 cable.
Aluminum Construction and Large Quiet Fan
The DRD-101 employs a dual-element cooling system to prevent overheating when working for long periods of time. The aluminum construction dissipates heat, while a single large fan cools the drives with maximum efficiency and minimum noise.
Hot Swapping
The DRD-101 allows hot swapping, so you won't have to shut down your computer every time you install a hard disk.
Front-Loading, Tray-Less Drive Bays
Installing your hard disks is easy. Instead of dismantling your computer, just pop the disk drives into the easily accessible, front-loading drive bays. The bays are tray-less, eliminating the need for drive carriers, screwdrivers, or other installation tools. When removing your disks from the enclosure, the bay doors prevent jams by automatically ejecting the disk as you open the door.
Locking Bay Doors
As an added security measure, the bay doors lock with the included hex key to prevent them from inadvertently opening.
LED Status Indicators
Each drive bay is furnished with a status LED to indicate when the corresponding disk drive is powered or reading and writing.
Integrated Chipset
The DRD-101 beeps continuously to let you know if one of your disks is damaged. As an extra security measure for your data backup, an integrated chipset can automatically rebuild your RAID 1 system when you replace the damaged disk with a new one.
Intelligent Sleep Mode
The DRD-101 is programmed with an intelligent sleep mode to save energy and reduce wear and tear on your disk drives. If there's no read/write activity on the installed disk drives for five minutes, the DRD-101 will automatically enter sleep mode and the fan will power down.

    Xcellon DRD-101 Reviews

DRD-101 Dual-Bay System for 3.5" SATA Hard Disk Drives is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from New Product, Less Than Ideal Service - Buyer Beware This unit was fairly priced, and as described, did a hardware-based, RAID 1 backup and handled 4TB mechanical hard drives, the drives were hot-swapable and connected to USB and eSATA. Unfortunately, the unit was DOA out of the box. The front status lights performed a show for me - sometimes they were both on, they flashed, changed colors, shut off, etc. Regardless of the machine's electrical status, my computer couldn't identify the box. Other USB and eSATA drives were seen. I called Xcellon for assistance. The one person who might have helped was on vacation. I returned the Xcellon to B&H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Understated simplicity of installation This unit was so easy to install. No manual required. Very intuitive and smart. I installed one SSD and one standard ESATA drive into each slot. Windows recognized the individual drives as if they were locally attached with no hiccups. For the money, incredible. I did not even utilize the RAID capabilities of the unit which are outstanding. I would get the four bay version if I wanted that though. Buy this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time RAID user I bought this to start my first RAID array and have been very pleased with the performance. The drive installation and hardware configuration were extremely easy. The cooling fan is a touch louder than I had expected, but it's really not an issue since I don't run it all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Raid Box I use this to transfer my files from HDD to other HDD's great for backup as well. Has no problems with this device at all. The drives are always cool, the unit sleeps very well, the over all construction feel solid. I must note I do not leave this on burning anyway so It will last for many years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New HD Back-up in 30 minutes I purchased this Xcellon 2-bay housing to build a RAID disk back-up for my Dell. I popped in the two, 1tb drives, set the dip-switches, followed the directions for formatting using Windows and it worked flawlessly!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked (barely) for a week Seemed like perfect solution. Dual hot swappable bays for $. I didn't even care if RAID or SATA worked as I don't use them. After fidgety mounting with USB3 on two different systems it stopped being seen completely. Not seeing the unit but not the drives, the unit wasn't seen online under USB3. SATA works, but that's not an option for me. USB is dead. I'll echo the other review about the support. Back to B&H it goes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quite Different and Negative Experience Unfortunately, my experience with this hardware, was negative. My unit may have been defective. My Computer did not see the two drives or the DRD-101. I build my own computers and consider myself computer competent. There was no section on Troubleshooting so I called the support number. There was no one immediately available to assist me and the one person who could, was on vacation. Really? I returned the 2 units I purchased. Hopefully, this was a hardware fluke and more support staff will be hired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Device ignore all negative comments This thing works as advertised, it never got hot, drives kept super cool, it has hard drive failure alarms that will beep if you got a bad drive or if it fails. setup was a breeze and snappy. just what I was looking for a quick raid setup to copy files. don't hesitate to get this if you need it. the fans works great I can see this lasting years to come. swapping drives are fast!!
