ikan PT-ELITE-RC reviews

Elite iPad Teleprompter Kit with Elite Remote is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from For My Application - GREAT! SCREEB AND OVERAL CONSTRUCTION Great design overall, solid. I was worried about the iPad arms after 1 review that said they broke, but what appears to be a new version is quite strong. They're spring loaded so you have to pull on them to lock your iPad in place. Once it's in, it's not going anywhere. Nice glass - a little tricky to assemble. which you only need to do only once. It's hard to figure out which is the prompt side and which is the camera side before you fix the glass in it's frame - wish they would just put a little sticker to indicate the correct orientation of glass. Edges of glass are sharp when out of frame, so be careful with them - I cut myself without even knowing it (not terribly). I think it's described as having velcro for the hood, which I expected, but it's actually held on my magnets, which is even better in my opinion. Much easier to pull on and off. Great quality. I don't use the base plate since it works on my 15mm rod that come off the camera (EPIC). With the 24-70mm Canon zoom I can almost get the full width (around 26mm) before seeing the iPad holder (in landscape mode). The lens is right at the base of the frame. I'm always a fan of metal construction for the Kipp bolts, but the plastic ones are fine - and lighter. SOFTWARE You'll need to purchase a prompter app separately. I recommend trying out a few (if they have free versions) and figure out what you like. They MUST have a mirror option so you can use the Ikan - most do, but you'll want to check. I don't use the REMOTE because right now I don't use the scroll function. Make sure the app you like will be able to use the Remote of you want it. None of the 5 prompter apps I've tried allow you to LIVE edit off another iPad or OSX device so that's a bummer. If you need that (and plenty do) I wouldn't purchase an iPad prompter. It's not that much more for the Ikan LCD prompter, so consider those elements. Live/on set script editing adjustments on set are a pain with an iPad. If there's a better way - I'd love someone to chime in and suggest what they find. CONCLUSION The most important thing when deciding to purchase is finding the right iPad app for your needs. The general prompter is great for small / mid size cameras.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good teleprompter, a few caveats A few notes about me before I begin: I'm not a professional filmmaker. I wear the hat of 'multimedia guy' at my work and we needed a teleprompter. So this is from the perspective of someone who hasn't worked with equipment like this before. This is a great teleprompter and we're pleased with it now that we've got it up and running. I found the assembly instructions to be quite difficult, and what was constructed was entirely different than the images that are in the manual. So that was a bit frustrating. One thing they don't warn you about is that the 70/30 reflective glass is SHARP on the edges. Because it's 70/30, there's only one way the glass should face, and it's based on how reflective it is - you have to eyeball it, it doesn't indicate with a removable sticker or anything. So I held the glass and flipped it back and forth in my hands to see which side was more reflective, and promptly sliced my thumb open. A fairly deep cut! Be careful! Also, we have a Canon XF100 at work, a small-ish, if semi-professional camera. Here are the issues I encountered:1) I couldn't get the camera to secure to the mounting plate. The provided screw sank all the way into the camera (through the hole in the plate) and the camera was still loose on top of the plate. I had to go to a hardware store to get washers. A huge deal? No, but a tad annoying. 2) I don't know if it's just the XF100, but it sits slightly too low. Even with the teleprompter window adjusted to be as low as possible, the arms that hold the teleprompter are in frame (and thus the iPad itself when it's mounted) when I'm zoomed all the way out. This may not be a big deal for most, but I'm filming in a relatively small room (not my preference but I have no choice), and zooming in at all is not ideal. On the recommendation of a B&H salesperson (always very helpful, I should say), I bought a riser (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/734321-REG/Shape_wlb_RISERPA1_Paparazzi_Riser.html). $...yikes. Anyway, it made the camera too high. So it looks like Im going to have to deal with the camera being a bit too low. 3) We got a first gen iPad Air and it does fit in the arms, but it's a TAD loose. Still fine though. Anyway, those are my complaints. Still 4 stars. We've used it a couple times and it's great. The bluetooth remote works fine with the iPad and and the Ikan teleprompter app. This has nothing to do with the software or the teleprompter itself, but you probably do want someone manually controlling the speed of the teleprompter. I sat next to my subject (just out of frame) and increased/decreased the speed of the scrolling continually. Distance: we're reading from about 6 feet away so we don't have an issue, but I wouldn't push it beyond 12 feet or so, otherwise you're going to have to make your text gigantic and scroll it really fast - not ideal. So it's good for shorter distances.Overall, a good product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This thing is TERRIBLE.... The holder for the iPad itself is so cheaply made that when you try to put the iPad into the holder, the housing snapped in half and springs and plastic went flying everywhere. I was able to finally put it back together and it's now being held together with packing tape... super professional looking. The teleprompter glass is also very thin and came shattered in the packaging. I'm not saying the shattered glass was IKAN's fault specifically since shipping isn't nice to glass objects in general, however, they could have packaged everything up a bit more robustly. They are sending out another pane of glass for free, so kudos on their customer service. All in all, based on the iPad holder and the lack of customizable options for the camera mount, I would buy another system. I have other IKAN products and they are all fantastic, so this is disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is fantastic!!! Was easy to set up and control We use the teleprompter in our web business to create on camera scripts selling our products and it sure helps our talent bring out their personality because they do not have to concentrate so hard on memorizing the scripts. And the price is fantastic!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 80% great This would be 5 star rating if it came with good software (it doesn't) and if the camera platform allowed easy attachment of the camera (it doesn't) Function is great once it is set up and using with good software.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice kit I use this kit with a Sony F55 mounted on the rods of a Tilta Rig. It works very well but the iPad Air that I use could be better secured in the holder.
