question
how to activate my scanner with serial number provided ?
You should not have to activate the scanner with your serial number to use the scanner. However, if you are inquiring about registering your scanner's serial number with the manufacturer, you would visit the manufacturer's website and go to their Support Page to Register Your Product with the manufacturer.http://bit.ly/2ePJqz4

question
How do I change the date of the files?
If you are speaking of the creation date of the file, most likely you will only be able to do that with your computer and not the scanner software.

question
I will be visiting a few libraries to South American in a month and need a portable scanner for sheet music, newspapers and magazines; I am not sure they will have connectivity or outlets available in case batteries run out during my sessions. I own a Mac BookAir, would this one be appropriate? Thanks, Albert
This scanner is Mac-compatible and I recommend it for your purposes.
