Distinguished by a uniquely fast and versatile design, the Pentax K-mount Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM is an Art-series zoom, covering wide-angle to normal focal lengths. Separating itself from the pack, this zoom features an exceedingly bright f/1.8 constant maximum aperture, which suits its use in difficult lighting conditions and offers impressive depth of field control throughout the zoom range. As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
Wide-to-normal zoom is designed for APS-C-format Pentax K-mount cameras and provides a 27-52.5mm equivalent focal length range.
Impressively bright constant f/1.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
Five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Four aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with an internal focusing system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.
This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Just got this lens using it with my K-r all was going fine then AF just stopped working on the camera and has disappeared and is darkened out in the menu could the lens have caused the malfunction in the K-r?
Asked by: James
it is possible that using the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Pentax K on a Pentax K-r camera would stop the AF function in the camera, because the Pentax K-r camera is not listed as a compatable camera for that SIgma Art lens. If one uses another "real" Pentax lens on the K-r and the Auto Focus function is back to normal then one could come to the conclusion that the Sigma lens was the issue

question

I have Canon 60D with 18-200mm lens. Will Sigma 18-35mm good choice for next lens to produce better quality for Day / Night time photography ?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes it will, the overall optical quality of this lens is better than those used in super-zooms such as the 18-200mm lens, and with a wide aperture of f1.8, it is ideal for use in low light situations.

Which one is better? Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF DX AF-S Nikkor, or Sigma 18-35mm F/1.8 DC HSM Art ?
Asked by: Paul
I've had the 17-55 for years ... it's served me well. It does offer wider/more convenient focal range but the Sigma 18-35 is sharper than my copy of the Nikon 17-55.

question

i know this is for crop sensor. but will it work on full frame without a huge black edge around the image? this lens seems amazing!!
Asked by: Anonymous
From most all reviews I have seen, typically, everyone does state that the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Lens for Canon is an amazing lens as you mention. However, as the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Lens for Canon is designed for APS-C cameras, it should not be used on a full-frame camera. Trying to do so may damage the reflexing mirror in the camera or the rear element of the lens, or both, and as it is designed for the smaller APS-C sensor, there would be a black border around the edge of the frame where the larger sensor is looking at the outer edge of the lens' housing.

I just brought the sigma 18/35 mm EF art and im going to upgrade from APSC system to canon 5D mark 4. Will this lens fit or do i have to buy an adapter?
Asked by: Anonymous
This lens will be able to mount to the 5D mark IV, however this lens is designed for the APS-C sensor so it will not cover the full frame sensor of the 5D resulting in a severe vignette on the image. This can be alleviated by cropping the image in post to remove the vignette but you will not be taking full advantage of your new camera. I would recommend using full frame lenses(EF) on the 5D and using this lens only on APS-C cameras.

question

I want to adapt this lens to my Sony fs5. Would it make more sense to order the EF mount version and use either the MC-11 or Metabones Mark4? OR.. Order it in the Sony A mount and then use Sony's A to E mount adapter? I believe Sony's native A mount of this lens won't go directly onto the fs5.
Asked by: John
You will get similar results whether you go Canon EF to Sony E or Sony A to Sony E adaptation. But, it is best to trust the results of the Sony to Sony functionality (eliminating a 3rd party product), so the Sony A mount to E mount adapter is recommended for the FS5.

question

Is there any performance information about using this lens on a APS-H sensor camera such as the Canon 1D IV
Asked by: Anonymous
This lens is equivalent to a Canon EF-S type lens, which is optimized for the APS-C format sensor cameras only, and should not be used with an APS-H or full-frame model DSLR.
