    HighPoint 5212 reviews

RocketStor RS5212 Thunderbolt Storage Dock is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for high speed data recoveries Great for restoring system images to new drives in minutes, performing data recoveries or cloning drives. I do not like the light on the front which looks like a button and probably should be a power button but doesn't function as such. I would prefer the dock to have a second thunderbolt port to extend the chain further, but unfortunately this dock terminates the chain. It does function well, though my MacBook Pro had trouble recognising the dock and required several resets of the Parameter RAM (CMD+OPT+P+R) keys on startup before it functioned properly - this is not a problem of the dock, but a helpful tip for others experiencing issues with connections.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T BUY THIS I took delivery, connected everything properly, and nothing. I called RocketStor support and the recorded message says we no longer provide phone supportOf course I (like everyone else in this business) am up against a deadline, and the return for replacement option doesn't help me out. I need to finish this project immediately. In addition, the unit is very flimsy plastic, and for $ should work. It's obviously the power supply (see image below) which was obviously never tested to make sure (quoting the manual) When powered on will emit blue light from the top of the enclosure I'm only hoping that my local brick and mortar store can help.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap, fast I use this for video editing with Premiere Pro CC. Currently, this dock is the cheapest way to transition from the Firewire 800 interface to Thunderbolt 1. Construction is good enough, a very simple design. One fairly cheap choice made by the designers is that they didn't bother to include a power button, which means I usually unplug this after ejecting the disk, to let it sit overnight (otherwise it will be spinning the HD all night, even when not in use). Also, it can get really hot, you might want to point a fan at it. At a third of the price of a robust, 4-bay enclosure like the Promise Pegasus line, you get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect high speed connectivity I couldn't find any reviews of this dock online, but ordered anyway with fingers crossed. I was not disappointed. The plastic feels a little cheap, but the dock itself works flawlessly. I was able to easily reformat 2 old hard drives that my other docks and enclosures wouldn't even recognize. Transfer rates with a single 3TB Seagate Barracuda are consistently over 140GB/s, which means I finally have a viable backup option for large iPhoto libraries. A library that took days to copy with a USB2 dock can now be transferred in a few hours. Very pleased so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must have. Its pretty straightforward, Plug and play. A must have for anyone who deals in megabyte hungry files and is obsessed with never loosing them. Fast, easy, convenient. The only drawbacks I see is maybe the weight of the thing, too light. I have to hold it down when extracting drives, and the window o opening on the dust lids to insert SSDs allows dust in if you are not using it, so I always load HD on both bays to keep that form happening. An on/off button would be nice

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs Improvement If you've got USB 3 and HDD, I think a Newer Voyager is a better investment for $37. This unit is manly for use with SSDs. Problems, in order of importance: #1: the circuitry in the unit gets very hot and this transfers to the drive making it hot to the touch. This is the first dock I've ever used that heats up the drive just from being inserted. #2: when your unmount your HDD from the desktop, the drive doesn't spin down. #3: no Thunderbolt cable is included (an extra $30-$40) #4: there is only one TB port, so you can't daisy chain the unit #5: there is no ON/OFF switch #6: Out of the box, using a Western Digital WD20ERFX Blackmagic Disk Speed Test reports slower performance than the Voyager Dock (the difference is negligible using HDD but it is slower). As an overall solution, I can't recommend it unless you are using SSD's to take advantage of the Thunderbolt speeds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 89% great... Fine plug-in HDD dock with Thunderbolt speed. Use it everyday and I don't care what the USB 3.0 price-point crowd says; the speed bump worth the money. If you're pushing a few terabytes of video around every night for back-ups those extra few bucks invested become trivial in hurry. My gripes are minor: The glowing blue ready-light on the front remains solid, regardless of mode or activity. Why have it at all if it doesn't indicate a read/write status? Only shows it's powered-up. The big physical eject buttons by each drive bay are good reminders to unmount the drive, but could they be staged to signal to the OS to do that for you? Finally, for $$they couldn't throw-in a plastic lid or dust cover???Still and all a great peripheral if you employ as many unenclosed HDD's as we do for back-ups.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Only one on market? Pretty awesome product. I have a Samsung 500GB 850 Evo 2.5 SATA III Solid State Drive that i run in it. Seems like this is the only type of product on the market at this price point. Have not had an issue yet. The only things i don't like about it are there is no power switch, and there is no cover for the secondary card slot. I am only using one slot right now and I put a piece of gaff tape over the other slot so dust does't settle in there. Other than that, great product.
