Manfrotto 468MGQ6 overview

  • 1Description

This 468MG Hydrostatic Ball Head from Manfrotto includes an integrated Arca-type clamp and a MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate. Arca-type compatible quick release plates such as the MSQ6PL can be attached or removed from the Arca-type clamp located at the top of the ball-and-socket joint by tightening or loosening the clamp's locking knob. Within the recessed surface between the clamp's jaws is a retaining pin. This pin prevents an installed quick release plate from accidentally sliding off when the clamp is opened.

The 468MG Hydrostatic Ball Head with MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate features a ball-and-socket joint that utilizes pressurized fluid, which helps to provide a 35.3 lb load capacity and an easy-to-tighten locking mechanism. By loosening the 468MG Hydrostatic Ball Head's primary locking knob, the ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled, angled, fully tilted, or returned to its upright position. An additional knob set within that locking knob can be rotated to apply tension control to the ball-and-socket joint's movements. Along the opposite side of the ball head, a secondary locking knob controls the ability to rotate the head 360°.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate which, measures 2.8 x 2.2 x 0.4".

    Manfrotto 468MGQ6 reviews

468MG Hydrostatic Ball Head with MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Head, Lacking Clamp This head is impressively stable and tightens without any drift. The action of all knobs except for the stepped friction-control, is real smooth. Really love the feeling of this head. I chose it because it was cheaper than the RC4 model and wanted to try the Q6 system. While the RC4 is not perfect, it is much better than this one as it keeps the camera aligned with the center of the lens. The better one in the end is the 468MGRC4 which I build by using this head and an RC4 clamp I had from a 488RC4. Even if you buy the RC4 clamp and plate separately and this one, you can throw out or sell the Q6 system and still end up paying less.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well engineered - isn't going to budge This is a great ball head - significantly constructed and very reliable as to holding a heavy rig. Using it with a Nikon 200-400mm and it supports it like a dream. Smooth movement when it's supposed to and lock tight when one wants to position the camera/lens. Yes, expensive but it is a ball head that will serve one for years without concern.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nomad314 This head is super strong and equally fast at repositioning and locking down. I needed a head where I could make quick, fluid changes and then lock the head quickly. This head filled all the needs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not impressed Being a small person with not the strongest hands, I was looking for a ball head that would support a lot of weight and not require much strength to tighten. I thought the hydrostatic feature would make things much easier, but didn't find that to be the case. Was not impressed with the finish and didn't really care for the quick release plate. It would benefit from a layer of rubber or cork like most other plates have to keep it from twisting. For the money I wanted to be really happy with the ball head so returned it. Ended up buying a Sirui K-30x Ball Head and love it so much I bought a second one. The Sirui cost 1/2 as much as the Manfrotto and I liked it much, much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ballhead I have used another manfrotto ballhead for about 10 years and have found that camera and lens combination, even though under weight limit of ball head, had tendency to flex some as I have added larger heavier telephoto zoom lenses. This ballhead is easier to adjust and lock and will hold my canon 5d mkIII and sigma 150-500 exactly in position.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for in a head A little on the pricey side, but it has worked out very well so far. Since I am doing more and more astro and macro photography, I needed a head that would give me the angles that I needed
