Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 overview

  • 1Description

The silver Rokinon Reflex 300mm f/6.3 ED UMC CS Lens is a mirror lens designed specifically for use on Fujifilm X mount mirrorless cameras. The lens' Cassegrain design enables it to achieve a 450mm 35mm-equivalent focal length perspective within a compact and lightweight lens design that is significantly smaller than a traditional 300mm lens. It features a fixed f/6.3 aperture and utilizes manual focus operation for focusing as closely as 2.95'.

One extra-low dispersion element and the inherent mirror construction of the lens work to eliminate chromatic aberrations while providing notable image sharpness and clarity. Furthermore, the UMC (Ultra Multi Coated) coating has been applied to reduce surface reflections, lens flare, and ghosting while also contributing to improved overall contrast.

Mirror lens designed specifically for Fujifilm X mount mirrorless cameras.
Catadioptric system with Cassegrain design helps to reduce the overall size of the lens while still providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 450mm.
One extra-low dispersion element and a UMC coating are integrated into the lens construction to improve sharpness and clarity as well as enhance the overall image contrast.

    Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 reviews

Reflex 300mm f/6.3 ED UMC CS Lens for Fujifilm X Mount (Silver) is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from compact and fun This is a surprisingly small lens - the old Nikkor 500MM f8 cat is well over 4 times the size and weight. As with all mirror lenses, this is not as pin sharp as conventional optics, but for the money spent and the ease of carrying it at all times, it's well worth it just in case. Focusing the lens is fine, though with the EVF it's really necessary to use the focus assist (enlarging the image in the viewfinder) since with the shallow DOF telephotos lens offer it could be easy to have your subject out of focus, but only find that out when you're reviewing the shots on a large monitor. The helicoid has a decent feel to is -it twists nicely enough. Again, not first-rate optics or mechanics, but then again at this price and convenience it's worth considering.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value Lens is surprisingly sharp. Very small and light, but 300mm on a Fuji X-E1 is tough to hold steady. Unless I ramped up the ISO to shoot at 1/2000, shots were noticeably soft. On a tripod with remote release, excellent shots at 1/125.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens for great price Surprisingly small and light yet solidly built. Handheld shooting requires a fast shutter speed but a tripod is still necessary for accurate framing as the viewfinder image is very shaky. Lens needs good focussing since the depth of field is very small. Interesting bokeh due to its mirror construction. Well suited for close - up photography as its minimum focus distance is quite small. Images have more softness than normal but nothing dramatic. If one knows about its idiosyncrasies then this lens is fun to use. One thing to keep in mind is that the lens focuses past infinity so even long distance shots must be focused accurately.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Well, I was warned. I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but I'm afraid I have to. More than one review mentioned that this lens could wonder out of alignment with usage and vibration. Mine arrived unable to focus out of the box. For the first two weeks I assumed it was user error, as I have never been very good with manual focus lenses. But, when I took a picture down a telephone line and no point on the line was in focus, I realized it wasn't me. Another point, I had picked this up for photographing the eclipse. In practicing, I discovered that they had pulled a line from Toy Story as the lens would happily focus To infinity, and beyond!. Not nice. Oh well. It's good technology. But i guess if I want a telescope, I should buy a telescope.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Relative 4 Stars, but Really Not Bad This lens is relatively sharp given the cost, size, and weight. With a max aperture of 6.3, its mandatory to push the ISO somewhat. But I was surprised at its sharpness with close up subjects. My Fuji lenses are quite a bit sharper, so the comparison is relative. But...I see value in this lens given its compact size and weight for travel. My kit tends to be wide angle to short tele primes, with no desire to carry a heavy zoom around. But for those few times I need to reach out and get close to a far away subject, this lens has much merit. As a macro lens, it has an extremely shallow DOF, but it does surprisingly well...considering.'s all relative, but for the price, etc, it has its place.
