The HDMI to Composite and S-Video Scaler from Gefen allows you to convert a single HD source signal to standard definition NTSC or PAL format. It supports input resolutions up to 1080p and outputs SD signals through composite or S-Video connections. The outputs are scaled, meaning the original aspect ratio of your input source will be maintained. Audio is de-embedded from the HDMI input and can be sent to an AV Receiver or amplifier through S/PDIF digital audio or left/right analog audio outputs. A 6-foot locking HDMI cable comes included.
Note: This device is not HDCP compliant.
Other Features
NTSC/PAL switch
Underscan/Overscan switch for fitting image size on older analog televisions

Caution if connecting to a MacI like Gefen products, and I have used this scaler with a camera on a different project; so I can attest to its quality. However, I was surprised to find out that it absolutely is not recognizable by any kind of Mac computer. Not with the HDMI output from a retina MBP, a Mac Mini, and not even through an adapter for a DisplayPort. Research on the internet suggests it an HDCP issue which could be possible. I've have seen it happen before with Gefen HDBaseT Rx/Tx pairs. I ended up getting a different device built for a Mac that takes HD output from a Display/Thunderbolt port - even from a new retina MBP - and makes it work with a much older composite out for integrating an aged video system.

Thank the Universe! We are a Public Access station only able to broadcast in standard def. With live HD feeds coming in live other devices claimed but didn't produce the letterbox format we needed. Only issue is once you get the device and you want letterbox, you have to go to the Gefen site and download the fix for this requirement. Gefen should tell clients upfront.

A great device for computer output!Since I got my recent computer in 2013, I've been trying to get an output to my TV using the normal composite output, which the video card sadly doesn't have. (Although S-Video is an option for my TV as well, it sometimes doesn't detect it properly.) After having tried 3 other VGA to composite scan converters, I thought I would try this Gefen scaler and use the HDMI output on my video card. And it seems I made the right choice at last! While the previous scan converters suffered with a somewhat stuttery PAL output, the Gefen scaler isn't really all that bad at it. It is a little bit stuttery here and there, but nothing to get in a fuss about. When I watched a TV show using it, it wasn't noticeable at all. The image quality is pretty fine, and like it promised, it gives you a choice of resolutions. You'd probably want to stick to about 1024 768 pixels to read stuff from your computer, or otherwise it gets too tiny for your television. I tried both the S-Video and composite outputs, and they were both very good. I also tried it with my XBOX 360, and it worked fine with that too. The underscan setting is just right for my TV, if you want to get the whole image on your screen without anything cropped. It was nice to see that the power supply works from 100 to 240 V, and it also came with a set of Australian style pins, which I was happy to use! (It also had USA, British and possibly European ones too.) The metal case seems rugged and the screw in style HDMI plug is a good idea to keep it from being pulled out. All in all, it seems very well made, and it looks pretty nice as well.

Wonderful productI have a system that requires the S-Video connection - this product makes the integration of new computers to old video systems easy. Works much better than the Less expensive online auction site VGA adapters.
