Celestron 71199 overview

  • 1Description

The 12x70 Cometron Binocular from Celestron combine large objective lenses, mulitcoated optics and Bak-4 Porro prisms into an optical system designed for astronomical viewing. The 70mm objective lenses and multicoated optics gather enough light to provide bright images of the moon, planets, comets, and even some larger deep-space objects like nebulae. This combination of light gathering ability and prism design produces rich depth of view and contrast. The included adapter allows the binocular to be mounted on a tripod for extended viewing sessions.

The aluminum and polycarbonate body reduces the weight without sacrificing strength or durability. A center focus wheel gives easy access with either hand for precision focusing. Rubberized armor protects the optics when being used in damp conditions. Dimpled hand-grips help keep a steady hand on the binocular. The rubber eyecups optimize the long eye relief and block stray light from leaking in from your periphery vision, and can be folded down for eyeglass users.

Celestron 71199 reviews

12x70 Cometron Binocular is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seventy mm at 12x... just right for me. Have used the Celestron 12x70 Cometron several nights checking out the moon, Jupiter and the position of Jupiter's moons with no complaints. Better when mounted on a tripod as it's a bit heavy to hold still. Will be taking it to the wildlife reserve later this month for a little bird watching.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very powerful, great for daytime birding, etc Moon, not so m I initially purchased this product to view the moon. While one can indeed see the moon I would question whether one really sees craters and other objects. Keep in mind this product was originally designed for the close approach of a comet which would have made good use of its wide field of view. Unfortunately the comet fizzled out. However, for daytime viewing, especially of birds at a distance, it is fantastic. Crisp clear, etc. For extended viewing in one pace, attachment to a tripod would be useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Value leader This model gathers gobs of light and has a pleasingly large Field of View, making it easy to find deep-space objects. A bit heavy for bird watching, they can be hand-held for a short time, although a tripod makes extended use possible.Stars are point-like over most of the field, and the overall quality is good. Excellent for Astronomy use, or for the home with a view.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Celestron 12x70 binoculars Excellent product for the price! They definitley require a tripod or some sort of steadying device but they work great. We use them primarily for terresterial viewing as we live in the beach.
