Express 2.5" Portable USB 3.0 Enclosure Kit for SATA HDDs & SSDs (Black) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little housing I replaced my laptop's hard drive with a Solid State Drive, so I had a spare hard drive. I put it in this housing, so I now have a portable storage device. It plugs into the USB port and needs no external power. It also makes use of the USB 3 technology, so it should move data very quickly. I don't do digital photography, so I am uncertain about downloading from a camera to this drive, but USB ports are standard. The drive is pocketable, so it is like data stick on steroids. My only complaint is that the cover attaches with a little difficulty, better I should write that one needs a little care.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works but disappointed with housing material. I bought this to use with a former internal laptop hard drive. It works. But the housing is cheap plastic. In the photos, the unit appears to be metal. The product description does not state that is or that is not plastic. So I assumed it was metal. When plugged in (not even when in use and/or reading/writing files to it), the unit gives off a lot of heat. I have had metal enclosures that dissipate the heat better. And those metal enclosures cost half the price or even less money. I am disappointed in OWC (a brand I have purchased and normally trust.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best enclosure I know of on the market If a more reliable one existed, I would probably give this three stars, since it doesn't always work at first and can require multiple rounds of unplugging and replugging in the drive, at least on my Macbook Pro. However I've had this same problem with other enclosures, so the behavior isn't entirely it's fault. OWC should have provided an external power option to possibly mitigate such difficulties. These complaints might seem to be at odds with my rating, but I am a fan of the durability and small size of this enclosure, and again, I don't know of a better one with its qualities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job without any issues I replaced the drive in my laptop with an SSD and got this to use with the drive that was in it. I have a couple other aluminum enclosures which cost more that do not work any better than this one. For the money it's what you should expect and it's a good deal. If you don't like the idea of a plastic case pay the extra $or $bucks for an aluminum one and don't complain about how this one feels or looks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast and good value enclosure A great little enclosure, but it's all plastic. Not sure how well it would dissipate heat when working a drive hard. It is however, a much faster enclosure than any USB enclosure I have tried to date... With a SSD installed, I get speeds up to 370MB/sec read and 330MB/sec write with a Samsung 250GB 850 EVO drive. The enclosure also allows SMART data to be obtained from the installed drive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad at all :) I like cheap enclosures that are easy to open and close because I have a bunch of drives I can easily and quickly swap out without spending money on a bunch. This one works without issues (for me). It's small, its cheap flimsy plastic, but not that bad honestly. Perfect to keep at home without moving it around and even for portability. Just doesn't offer anything in the way of protection in case it drops. So try to keep this one at home :). minus the disgusting chemical smell from the leather case they provided that takes a couple of weeks to dissipate from the drive, this is a good inexpensive purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Enclosure! So I bought this for my Intel 520 series SSD (SATAIII)...I recently upgraded to a new retina MacBook Pro and my old MacBook Pro had the Intel 520 as its boot drive and everything was already transfered over so I decided to use my SSD as a scratch drive for video editing. I used a Seagate SATA adapter which was decent but didnt provide an enclosure really. I bought this to give my SSD a home and my SSD speeds went up by about 40-60MB/s...I'm now getting 250-300 on read and 180-230 on write...not BLAZING fast but faster than before. The drive DOES support SATAIII so If I throw in a Samsung 840 Pro I suspect I'll get SATAIII speeds...Its not super duper durable but it gets the job done, their is some space in between the enclosure and the SSD but it holds it just fine, if I were concerned about durability I could theoretically throw some material in to pad it but SSD's are naturally durable. Only con is sometimes it causes the drive to dismount when I close the lid on my MacBook...never had this issue with other external SSD's so this is a bummer but as strange as it sounds I don't put my MacBook in sleep when Im doing allot of work anyways. Overall pretty good but 1 star off for the durability and sleep problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best portable HD enclosure I have used Super Easy to use, no fussing with needing to screw the HD into the inside of the case then screwing the case together as with other enclosures. HD just clicks in, and the cover snaps closed and you are ready to go.
