FLM 3230905 overview

  • 1Description

The CP30-L3S Carbon Fiber Tripod from FLM is a lightweight and compact camera support for up to 33.1 lb. Weighing only 3.3 lb, it can support 10 times its weight. The tripod features a maximum height of 68.5" and a folded length of just 24.4".

The 3-section legs are made from 8-layer carbon tubes giving the tripod stability without unnecessary added weight. Twist locks on each leg allow the sections to be easily opened and locked with one hand and prevent dirt and moisture from damaging the locks between leg sections. Each leg is independently adjustable for use on uneven ground and lock in position using a simple push-lever lock. With the center column removed and the legs at their widest angle the tripod sits only 4.7" high for low-angle photography.

Each leg is equipped with rubber tips for slippery surfaces and retractable spiked feet for shooting outdoors on surfaces like sand, grass, or ice
A retractable hook for counterweight is integrated into the center column to add stability

    FLM 3230905 reviews

CP30-L3S Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top quality My preferred tripod is a Gitzo 3543XLS with a RRS BH-55 ballhead however it is both big and heavy for airline travel. I looked at many combinations and settled on FLM CP30-L3S with CB-38FTR ballhead as a reasonable compromise between rigidity, functionality and weight as I want to be able to mount long lenses (500mm) on occasions. The quality is exceptional - as you expect from a German manufacturer. I am not a fan of centre columns but this is well made, rigid and can be configured with it totally removed. It is designed to be folded in the inverted position with the column fully extended up the inside thereby enclosing the ballhead. The click stops on the leg angle activate as the leg is deployed. I have not used a tripod this way and would normally have the column lowered with the ballhead exposed. Deploying the legs in this manner just needs a thumb press on the click stop as the leg is opened to stop at the right angle. I have no problem with this and it takes no longer to setup. Minor criticism is the quality of the packaging as the box was oversize and the cardboard flimsy. The tripod had launched itself out of both the FLM box and the B&H box packaging on the trip to Australia. Thankfully no damage was done and the packaging was repaired by DHL.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A Few Things They Just Didn't Get Right . . . After much shopping-around on the B&H website, I finally chose the FLM CP30-L3S Carbon Fiber Tripod. Although I do rely on the reviews for each product, there were no reviews for this item, but took a chance based on FLM's reputation. There was one clear manufacturing defect: the section holding the counterweight hook simply just fell out of the centerpost the first time it was used, with only about 3-pounds of weight. It appeared to have just been glued-in and the glue apparently failed. The second issue had to do with the way the legs lock into position. With all other tripods I've used, when deploying the legs from a folded position, the legs automatically click into the most-used (tallest) position. But with the FLM, the legs just unfolded all the way out, so I had to adjust each knee individually by pressing the lever into the top slot. I'm not sure if this was a manufacturing defect or part of the design, but it's a deal-killer for anyone who appreciates fast setup of their tripod. I wish this unit had worked out for me. Other than the mentioned issues, the build-quality was top-notch, and everything else worked smoothly and the finish was beautiful. So I returned it via B&H's easy return policy and will continue my search.
