Contour Countour+ HD overview

  • 1Description

Contour's Contour+2 HD Action Camcorder offers high-definition video and 5-megapixel photo capture in a versatile, lipstick tube design that can be mounted nearly anywhere with a range of separately available mounting hardware. The camera simply powers on and begins recording at the slide of an On/Record switch, which is lockable to prevent accidental shut-offs. The flush lens can be rotated 270-degrees so that you can mount the camera in horizontally tilted angles and still get level shots. Moreover, a laser is built-in right above the lens to help you pin-point the correct shooting angle. The camera also captures audio via an internal mic, plus there is a 3.5mm mic port on the bottom. All capture and output settings are selectable in a free-download management software available on Contour's website or using the mobile app.

The integrated lens features a 170° ultra-wide angle that will provide you with an expansive view. Video can be captured in 1080p, 960p, or 720p HD resolutions. Still photos are captured at 5 megapixels (2592 x 1944) in intervals of 1, 3, 5, 10, 30, or 60 seconds. To choose between video or photo recording, you just have to select the desired mode in the management software. All data is recorded to microSD cards up to 32GB in capacity.

A 196' underwater housing is included, further backing up the camera's boast as a take-anywhere option. A USB cable is included for charging and file transfer, and an HDMI cable is included so you can plug the camera in and enjoy your adventures once you get home. The camera records to legacy microSD as well as microSDHC memory cards, and will accept capacities up to 32GB. A 1/4"-20 tripod socket lets you attach the camera to a plethora of tripods, suction cups, and other third-party mounting hardware - not to mention the range of dedicated accessories Contour offers.

270-Degree Rotating Lens
The lens can be manually rotated to correct if the camera is mounted in such a way the horizon isn't level. A total of 270-degrees of rotation is possible
Six Element Glass Lens with 170-Degree FOV
The ultra-wide lens design helps add to the POV feel of footage. Plus ensures you capture as much of the action happening in front of the lens as possible

Note: The effective angle of view varies depending on the resolution setting
Laser Alignment
Projects a laser from an emitter above the lens as a guide when composing your shot - helping ensure it is horizontally level. You can rotate the lens to make any corrections if the camera itself can't be moved
Mobile Connectivity
Use your mobile device to preview your shot before and while you're recording, as a remote control, or to tweak your camera settings in the field
Live Streaming
Live streaming is possible via the mobile app when the camera is connected to a mobile device that has an Internet connection
GPS Video Mapping
With integrated GPS tracking you can record your speed, elevation, and distance traveled - all of which can be superimposed on your video as overlays
Up to 120 fps Slow Motion
At 854 x 480 (480p) resolution you can record slow-motion video in 120 or 100 frames per second
External Microphone Jack
In addition to the built-in microphone, you can connect a third-party mic through the 3.5mm jack on the bottom of the camera. You can adjust audio levels in the Settings menu of the mobile app or using the Storyteller software
Instant On-Record Switch
Simply slide the Instant On-Record switch into its locking position to ensure you shoot when you're ready and don't press it by mistake
196.9' Housing Included
The included housing lets you use the camera in the water or even take it snorkeling or diving. It features a depth rating of 196.9', and can also be used to protect the camera from sand, mud, and dirt

    Contour Countour+ HD reviews

Contour+2 HD Action Camcorder is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Failure battery life if very limited. after a few months the battery will swell and cause difficulties removing forget water proofing. Underwater is my profession and knowing water proof casing care is my priority SADLY the water proof case leaks. Poorly designed (tried 2 water case) less than 10m of water for both cases. Both New cases. Contour will NOT respond to questions related to camera or battery problems when working it is a brilliant device the mounting is the only advantage over Go Pro. trust me I do not like the Go Pro however Contour need to do better quality of work

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I make a living using Contour cameras and need the geo-referenced video. The GPS is actually very accurate and usually works even when my Garmin GPS 18x cuts out due to interference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good for motorbike riders helmets. I use the camera on my helmet. good for low wind noises and low airodinamic noises. easy to operate with gloves.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good not so good I bought this camera for use in aircraft. Video is very good, but audio sucks.Tried several different adaptors and the audio was from none to partial in and out. Basicilly useless for the intended operation. I will say that customer service was superb but the replacement camera had the same problem and even the third one was usless. Guess it's time t try another brand

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds expectations I was very impressed with the quality of the video taken with this camera. I used it mounted to my helmet on a group motorcycle ride. The video came out crisp and clear. The GPS information was a huge bonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my Contour. I love it. I like the form factor so much better than other POV cameras, especially for mounting on a helmet. I've had just about every generation of the Contour cameras and they just keep getting better. The Contour+2's feature set is amazing as is the video quality. It's unmatched in it's usability and I feel like I can edit while I'm recording because it's so easy to use. I have other cameras, but they just stay in my bag when I think of the hassle to use them. Get a Contour and you won't regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All good but Bluetooth This is a good unit & a great value. I must point out however the Bluetooth on it is hit-miss. On all my devices both Apple iOS & Andriod most of the time it is a time consuming and frustrating deal. Almost without fail on both iOS & Andriod the Bluetooth won't connect without first unpairing the camera, telling your device to completely remove it, then again pairing and only then most of the time it will now connect. And yes I have done the latest firmware update on this camera as instructed. Not only all my devices but I asked two of my friends to try and connect to this camera and they get the same poor result. Despite this its not a deal breaker I love the Storyteller software especially the ability to show your speed, altitude, and show your route on a map when playing back. The service from B&H was superb and they are great sellers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Perhaps I got the one in a million bad units I have been very disappointed with this purchase and camera. Caveat, this is the first action cam I have ever used or purchased. First the malfunction, which I hope B&H will accept my desire to return it. The battery seems to have partially exploded, which LiIon are known to do. That in turns seems to have made the camera unable to record video. I was suspicious of the battery when I noticed it was to snug to eject. Then, the whole camera became hot to the touch when I went to test the video. Prior to this I had shot several test videos of a few seconds just to try the camera out and they did work. There are several other issues that I have with the camera model that are more shortcomings of the design and execution. At the top of the list is the software. Both the tablet based app and the PC based full software are incomplete if you ask me. The tablet app does not allow you to review the videos you have captured, even though it does offer limited remote capture features. The opposite is the shortcoming of the PC application, it doesn't allow you to remotely operate the camera and see what you are shooting in a high enough quality. Oh well, that wasn't promised but it sure seems like it should have been added to both. Ergonomics - some of the finger activated switches and ports are very cumbersome for adult sized hands. And trying to read the icons and labels is impossible if you have only mild presbyopia! The slider switch on top that activates the recording seems like it would be great in a gloved hand when riding a motorcycle. It isn't. I thought I had turned on and off the switch only to find out it remained in the on position. That was with the camera mounted on my helmet side and riding down the interstate at 75mph! Which reminds me, why didn't they offer a wired or wireless activation switch for this camera? I had two people show me their action cams that had that, almost bragging. Well shucks. Another issue I had with the camera was the microphone port, which is a slightly smaller size than most external mics you might find on the market. After downloading the manual I did read where they claim to include the proper adapter with the camera, but they didn't. What they provided was a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch headphone adapter. Not the 3.5mm down to 2.5mm adapter required. Even after buying the necessary adapter I never was able to record sound from the external mic jack! Most of these gotchas might be worked through with tech support and additional time and effort. However, the whole point of this product class is ease of use and out of the box goodness, not one problem after the other to solve. I would advise anyone considering this camera or other models from the same manufacturer to find someone who actually owns one and see what their satisfaction rating is. I didn't find much negative out on the internet to dissuade me during the pre-purchase phase, but that doesn't mean a product might not have a well known bad reputation.
