NEC PA242W Overview

The PA242W-BK-SV 24" Professional Wide Gamut LED Desktop Monitor from NEC is a full featured IPS monitor designed to provide accurate color representation with 100% coverage of sRGB color space, 99.3% coverage of Adobe RGB color space and 94.8% coverage of the NTSC color space.

This enhanced color matching capability is accompanied by a 1920 x 1200 resolution, an 8ms response time and 1,000:1 contrast ratio. The enhanced response time ensures you see reduced blur when viewing videos and movies while the improved contrast ratio provides darker dark and brighter light colors for a more dynamic picture quality. Additionally, the PA242W monitor supports both 10-bit and 8-bit color depths along with a 14-bit lookup table for a large palette of displayable colors.

The SpectraView II Color Calibration Solution includes the colorimeter and necessary software allowing you to calibrate the monitor to achieve accurate, consistent and repeatable color performance.

Multiprofiler Application
A variety of Monitor controls: MultiProler allows you to control the brightness, black level and color gamut directly from the software in addition to many other settings. Changes to settings are made instantly to the monitor.

Picture Mode preset editing: Multiple picture modes can be quickly congured using MultiProler. Choose from the simplicity of built-in sRGB, Adobe RGB, DCI, DICOM, REC-BT709 and High Brightness modes, or load an ICC prole for color matching an existing printer or display. In addition, MultiProler helps you create a completely custom Picture Mode conguration, including controlling the gamma characteristics, color gamut and white point.

Picture-in-Picture (PIP) conguration: The PIP modes can be completely congured directly in MultiProler, including the PIP mode, the video inputs and the Picture Mode for the second video input. This greatly simplies the management of multiple computer congurations.

DisplaySync Pro and USB hub conguration: The integrated USB hub in MultiSync PA Series monitors also can be managed through MultiProler to function as a keyboard/ video/mouse (KVM) switch. This feature maps the USB upstream ports to the various display inputs, which is useful for managing controlling computers attached to the display.

Quick print preview: Create a print preview Picture Mode for your printer by loading its ICC prole in MultiProler. The Picture-in-Picture or Picture-by-Picture function can then be used to view the print preview in real-time.

Automatic generation of ICC proles: MultiProler automatically generates and updates ICC proles as the color modes are selected or adjusted, reducing the need for a proling package to prole the monitor.

Is it Mac compatable?

Yes, this monitor is definitely Mac compatible. This is the bundle with the SpectraView software and the system requirements to run the software for Apple is: Apple Mac OS X v10.5 or higher.

I already have a Datacolor Spyder 5 elite calibrator, so is there a real need for the SpectraView II?

Not sure how the Spyder works, but the Spectraview does all the adjusting itself. You needn't touch any of the monitor buttons to adjust settings. I find it extremely simple to use.

No. The Mac can only output 8 bit signals (because there are three channels (RGB) means a total palette of approximately 16.7 million colors.

I understand the SpectraView II calibration kit comes with the monitor, but is the soft wear preloaded in the monitor or do you get it separately so you can use it on your laptop? I have a mac pro 13 inch and it needs to be calibrated.I bought the Apple 13.3 MacBook Pro Notebook Computer with Retina Display B&H # APMBPMD2122 ? Mfr # Z0N3-MD2122 from you. What do I need to make everything work to gather, cables etc? I can buy the SpectraView II calibration kit for 16.00 more, with the monitor without it added. NEC PA242W-BK 24 Professional Wide Gamut LED Desktop Monitor B&H # NEPA242WBK ? Mfr # PA242W-BK282.00 difference between the two monitors and to buy it separately is 298.11

The monitor does not have the capability to load any software onto. The software included is on disc and needs to be installed on the computer. You would need an external DVD drive or you can download the software from the NEC Website.The price difference of the kit or buying the monitor and calibrator separately do fluctuate based on what we pay for them. Either way you will end up with the same thing. I would purchase whichever is at less cost at the time.
