The ikan iLED312-v2 On-Camera Bi-Color LED Light with Digital Display is a compact battery-powered daylight/tungsten balanced on-camera light. It features a continuously variable color temperature between 3200 tungsten and 5600K daylight, and a built-in variable dimmer that can dim the lights output from 100 to 10%. Built into the light is an LCD panel that shows a digital readout of the brightness level, color temperature of the light and features a battery gauge so you know how much power you have left.

The light produces a 60° beam angle, and includes both a removable four-leaf barndoors and diffusion gel. The light features slots for two L-Series type batteries, and it includes two batteries and a dual-battery charger. A 1/4"-20 threaded hole allows you to mount the light to your camera's accessory shoe via the included ball adapter. You can also stack multiple iLED312 lights together using the interlocking rail system. An included soft carry case allows you to easily pack and carry your light unit, gel, barndoors, and included accessories to and from shoots.

Variable Color Temperature & Dimming
The iLED312-v2 features 312 LEDs, and a single knob that allows you to vary the color temperature of the unit from 3200 to 5600K. A separate knob controls the dimming of the unit, with brightness range of 100 to 10%.
Digital Display Screen
The dimmer and color temperature settings are controlled by analog knobs, but the built-in digital readout on the built-in display screen allows you to match the output of other units or repeat setups, if you have to go back and get pick up shots. The display also incorporates a four-step battery gauge so you know how much battery power you have left.
Barn Doors
The included four sided removable barn doors are constructed so the doors can interlock together, limiting light leak from the edges, controlling light spill, and providing directionality to your light. The side doors feature articulating leafs that provide you a fairly wide range of adjustment while still controlling light leaks from the edges of the doors.
Diffusion
Although you can attach diffusion gel to the barn doors, the iLED312-v2 features a slot for the included precut diffusion sheet, that can be used with or without the barn doors in place. The diffusion is notched, and a safety tab engages the notch to prevent it from accidentally falling out.
Power
The light unit features slots for two L-Series type batteries of any capacity, and includes two NP550-type batteries. The light can run on one or two batteries, you can use the AC adapter that powers the included dual battery charger to power the light instead, via the small power connector on the back of the unit.
Mounting
The light incorporates a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole in the bottom of the unit, and an interlocking rail system that allows you to stack up to three units vertically or horizontally, with a maximum of six lights.

ikan iLED312 Reviews

Good light for what it is.

I have two of these at work. It's bright enough for bi-color light. It can be run on just one battery. Most modern LED lights require two batteries or it won't turn on but this one does turn on so it's a plus. I tested with one fully charged NP F550 7.2v 2900mah and the light lasted over 70mins on 100% brightness at 4400K which I think is using full LED sources. The barn door is on heavier side so I took it out. The knobs are smooth and LCD screen is clear. So far so good.

Nice unit, good quality, needs adapter for c-stand

Light does the job well, and the fact that it comes with well made barn doors, batteries, charger and a case is a great deal. Only issue is it doesn't come with a adapter for it to go on a c-stand or to be able to swivel, it only has the 1/4' screw hole and a cold shoe adapter.

This light is just what I needed. I have an exciting new assignment which has me traveling extensively. I needed a very portable light -- small yet powerful enough for my needs. I really like this light. It comes with barn doors, batteries, adapter, charger, diffusion filter, and a nice compact carrying case. Can switch from daylight to tungsten or anywhere in between -- neat LED display on the back. Is this the brightest light I have ever owned? Of course not. But with my Sony a7riii and fast Zeiss lenses, all I need is a little light here and there to get a great shot. I bought two of these lights and they are awesome. Perfect for the videographer/filmmaker on the go!

The Ideal All Purpose Portable LED Light

By Tony

I've used a variety of portable LED video lights and the ikan iLED 312 is the one that I feel is the all-around best in its price class. It has all of the quality, features, and accessories that I look for in a portable LED light. BUILD QUALITY: The ikan 312 has an all metal frame that is solid and protective - yet it remains light weight so it can comfortably be used mounted on a camera for hand-held work. I've had some of these lights for approximately 9 years and they have held up perfectly. FUNCTIONALITY: The ikan 312 delivers a powerful light for it's size and has a relatively wide angle beam. If you are filming at night with the light mounted on top of your camera - on a documentary or as a news videographer, the wide angle powerful light will give you plenty of light for filming interviews and illuminating both the person and the area behind them. I've used some on-camera LED lights that have too narrow a beam so that you only get lighting on a subject's face and then if you pan a little, to include or zoom out to show a 2nd person or the space behind them, then the first subject is now in the dark - but with the ikan 312 you have a wide enough beam so that your wider shot can be fully illuminated. Of course if you want a narrow beam, you can use the supplied easy to use barn doors. Most frequently I use the ikan 312's for back lighting, fill lighting, or accent lighting. Because of their light weight, size, and shape - I frequently simply place one on a high-ish bookshelf or file cabinet as a backlight - with no light stand needed. I've also place one on the floor behind the person being interviewed to place some gentle lighting on the background - like what would have been an overly dark fireplace. They're also great for placing in various nooks and crannies in the background to add some nice depth and accent lighting. Working on a dramatic short film with a fictionalized scene of American soldiers hiding in an abandoned windmill in the countryside of France the night before the D-Day invasion in June of 1944, we used 3 ikan 312's to create just enough "moonlight" to create the perfect look of nighttime inside the windmill which was pitch black before we turned on the 312's - see photo. During daytime outdoor interviews, especially when your subject is in shade but there is bright daylight behind them, the ikan 312 can provide important light on the subject's face to help balance with all the bright back lighting. And, yes, there have been many times I've mounted a ikan 312 on a light stand (using an Impact Rapid Baby to 1/4-20 Male Threaded Adapter) to use it as a fill light. In certain situations you could likely use three ikan 312's to light an interview. The 312's are also designed so you can easily connect two, three, or several of them together and create one large bank of LED lighting that can all be mounted on one stand. No tools needed. FEATURES AND ACCESSORIES: Many LED video lights have some of the features I look for, but the ikan 312 has all of them. - It's bi-color with a rotating wheel that goes from 3200 to 5600 with an LCD display that tells you exactly where you are. - It's dimmable from 10% to 100% also with a rotating wheel and an indicator in the LCD display. - It also comes with a very easy to use pop-in diffuser - that I keep in the light when I'm not using it because it also protects the LED bulbs. You can slide the diffuser in and then lock it in place with the knob in the upper left hand back corner, or you can kinda simply bend it into place. - It also comes with 2 Sony L-type NFP batteries - which is a particular bonus to have them included. You can use 2 batteries on the 312 at once - and you get approx FOUR HOURS at FULL 100% LIGHT - or you get SEVEN HOURS at 50% LIGHT. With ONE battery you get TWO HOURS at FULL 100% light. - There's also one double charger, with power cable, so you charge both batteries at once. Each slot on the charger has 4 red lights so you can see the progress the charger is making. - The power cable for the charger can also plug directly into the ikan 312 so you can us AC power if it's available. - There's also a car charger adapter that you can use to power the light in your car - or to use to charge the batteries. - It comes with a good quality barn doors. - It also comes with a sturdy shoe mount that allows you to put the light on your camera - or attach it to some type of cage or rig. - And finally, the included brief case is an ideal size and shape to store and carry the 312. My one wish for improvement would be if it could dim a little bit more than 10% before clicking off. In summary, the ikan 312 light is well built, the perfect size for portability but substance, comes with all of the key accessories, and has the perfect mix of functionality and lighting options.

This was a replacement for one that was stolen. Easy to set up and to change the white balance. I work in TV News, speed is everything, this light makes my workflow much quicker. Whether using it for an interview or a live shot, never had a problem. Batteries last for well over an hour, and drain during storage is minimal.

I think this one is more to the point:I see the Ikan kit comes with 2 power adapters: 1 for AC and 1 for 12V DC.Can the light be powered by using either adapter while plugged-in to the respective power source instead of using the Sony batteries?OR, can the light only be powered by the Sony batteries? Thanks,

question

Suitable for light painting cars? Also, what is the CRI?
Asked by: Hugo
CRI means color rendering index and it measures the light source and is compared to a perfect light that is similar and it is on a scale of 1-100. This would be a very expensive way to go, the lights that are used in the paint booth are fine and a lot cheaper than these, these lights are great for pictures but don't go more than 10 ft and usually require two of them to keep the light balanced, hope this helps.

question

How's the color accuracy for those who actually used it? Bought it on Cyber Monday and noticed thee CRI is somewhat low. Debating if I should return these now seeing other panels offers CRI of 95 and more bulbs at around the same price.
Asked by: Jimmy L.
I have nothing to compare it to my first LED light but the color seems fine, especially since the temperature is adjustable.
