Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED V... Overview

Developed for Nikon's range of high-resolution DX-format cameras, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a versatile 27-210mm-equivalent all-in-one zoom covering a wide-angle to mid-telephoto range. Benefitting handheld shooting, Vibration Reduction minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops in order to produce sharper imagery. Additionally, a Silent Wave Motor affords fast, near-silent autofocus performance and full-time manual focus override.

All-in-one zoom spans wide-angle to telephoto focal lengths and is designed for Nikon F-mount DX-format cameras, where it provides a 27-210mm equivalent range.
One aspherical element is used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
One extra-low dispersion element greatly reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by 4 stops to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

I hope if I should need repair on this lens someone will repair it because no one would fix my old 18-135 DX Nikon lens.

I purchased this lens for a future trip to Boston where I have family members buried from the revolutionary war. As soon as it arrived I took it to Canal Park in Duluth waited for Blue hour and took my photo. Its got heft and takes sharp photos.

Great lens for general use

I bought this lens to replace my 18-135 that lacks VR and has a plastic bayonet mount ring. This lens is my go-to for photos around the house for birthday parties, holidays, and other family activities. It stays on my D5100 and is seldom swapped for another focal length. Images are sharp, focus is quick, and VR works according to specs. It would make a great lens for a small or startup studio.

How is it that a DX lens on a DX camera increases the working focal length of the lens? An FX lens on a DX camera would clearly increase the focal length because the image is larger than the sensor.
Asked by: William
Thank you Kevin. It just seems strange that use of an FX lens on a DX camera also gives a 1.5 crop factor because of the smaller sensor in the camera. An FX lens on a FX camera should not have a crop factor nor should a DX lens on DX camera have a crop factor. I will have to look at what kind of image I get with a DX lens on an FX camera.

Best for family - wedding party ...I have D750 body. Alreay have a 50mm. Whats best 35 or 18-140mm??
Asked by: Amy
This is a DX lens and will reduce the image quality of your camera by only using a portion of the sensor. I would recommend the Nikon 24-120mm lens.

question

Will a polarizing filter on this lens rotate as the lens focuses therefore requiring adjustment of the filter? Or does the front of the lens not rotate? Just comparing this lens to the 18-105.
Asked by: Anonymous
A polarizing filter will not move when you are adjusting the focus of the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 ED VR lens.

Is this lens compatible with Nikon d850?

Is this lens compatible with Nikon d850?
Asked by: Jeffrey
It will work, but it is not 100% compatible. That lens is made for smaller apsc sensor cameras and will crop the full frame sensor of the D850. You can use it in DX mode in the D850 but less than half of the available megapixels will be used and the angle of view increases by 1.5x when compared to a full frame lens.
