The B800fs Drobo 8-Bay Network File Sharing Storage from Data Robotics is an exceptional network storage device for securing your data. In total, this Drobo holds up to eight SATA I or SATA II 3.5" drives and utilizes two Gigabit Ethernet ports for quickly transferring data while connected to your network switches or computers.
For securing your data, this Drobo utilizes both Drobo Sync and BeyondRAID technologies. Drobo Sync allows you to use Drobo's convenient Dashboard Management graphic user interface to backup whatever files you have on your B800fs Drobo to another B800fs Drobo in a remote location. Drobo Sync can setup a regular schedule for backups and will work with a normal WAN/Ethernet connection or through a VPN.
BeyondRAID offers the data protection that is delivered by advanced RAID technology, without the limitations, drawbacks, and stringent requirements required to create a RAID array. You won't be locked into using the same size disks, and you won't have to migrate data off the array to add capacity. When the array starts to fill up, simply add another disk -- or replace one of the disks in the array with one of a higher capacity. If a disk fails, simply replace it -- no data will be lost. All told, this Drobo is a sophisticated network storage solution for your business when you want to securely save your data on site and remotely in a complete different location as a safeguard against floods, fires, or theft.
BeyondRAID technology built into this Drobo addresses the shortcomings of traditional RAID technology and makes virtualizing disk drives usable by everyone. BeyondRAID provides these enhancements over traditional RAID:
Thin Provisioning allows you to expand the capacity of your Drobo by just replacing a smaller drive with a larger one
Instant Expansion occurs when a new, or larger, drive is inserted without any disruption in service
Mixed Drive Utilization allows you to insert any drive, of any capacity, or any type, and the Drobo will optimally use it
Automatic Protection Levels is a function ensuring that the best algorithm is used to protect the Drobo from drive failure based on the number of drives that are inserted. This security feature is automatic, so, unlike RAID, you need not configure it
Dual Disk Redundancy enhances BeyondRAID protection by guarding from multiple drive failures in a short period of time. Even if two drives fail, BeyondRAID will attempt to use the remaining drives to return to a protected state
Virtual Hot Spare cuts down on waste by utilizing all drives at all times so that no drives sit idle. With some traditional RAID systems, a drive can be marked as a "hot spare", waiting on standby for another drive to fail before it can take over
