Revo SR-500 Overview

  • 1Description

Revo's Video Shoulder Support allows you to keep your DSLR or camcorder fixed steady on your shoulder and will enable you to steadily maneuver the camera, while keeping it focused on a subject.

The rig is both affordable and highly effective, as it wraps tight around your shoulder and balances against your chest, thus providing fixed steadiness. The shoulder mount and chest brace components (the top and bottom parts) are connected by a strong spring-loaded mechanism that causes the two to firmly press against your body vertically. At the same time, a shoulder strap wraps tightly around you horizontally.

The spring-load tension is adjustable by a knob on the side, and the shoulder strap is length-adjustable, so that both can be loosened, to a point at which hand support will be required. Conversely, the tighter you set these, the more fixed the rig will be on your shoulder -- tight enough that you can operate the rig hands-free. This is ideal if you're shooting an event, because you can rest your hands when there's nothing to shoot. Both the shoulder and chest components are foam padded and are made of high-density plastic.

Integrated at shoulder level is a camera baseplate. Included complimentarily are a long plate that attaches to the baseplate and a riser that can attach to the long plate and bring the camera to eye level. Knobbed 1/4" screws are included for attaching these to one another and for mounting a camera. The long plate will extend your camera out about six inches, while also raising it about an inch. The riser will raise your camera approximately three more inches. The riser features a mini quick-release plate that is removable with the flip of a lever. All the plates have rubber pads on them to better support the camera. The rig folds in half and packs into a supplied soft carrying bag.

Video Shoulder Support is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good for the price The shoulder support is a great inexpensive option. I shoot a lot of video with my Canon Rebel T2i and this has made the whole process a lot simpler and even hands free. The brace fits tightly around your chest and the whole design is great. My only problem was with the riser. The screw that came with it was too small and wouldn't grab tightly enough so the camera would jiggle around on the mount. I bought a slightly larger screw but there must be something wrong with the threaded barrel inside the riser because you can't tighten the screw all the way and the camera continued to flop around. I finally got a washer and that fixed the problem. Other than that, the rig is a good investment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great support system! The riser, and qr plate are very cheap, and would not recomend using them, but the rig itself is great! I used this for my last project in film school, and this made my days on location a lot easier! It can adjust to fit very snugly, to a point where you don't have to hold your rig with your hands (depends on how big your rig is), which is nice for changing lenses or filters on the fly. or looser, so that it sorta just rests on your shoulder. You will want to tighten the adjustment screw very tight, or else the arm can move and creak, and you don't want to hear that in your mics. All around, great purchase, not incredibly well made, but does a great job!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Useful Addition to my Pro Gear A useful addition to my gear, well worth the price and gives a more stable shot than handheld. It is tempting to dismiss this product due to it being made from heavy plastic but I found the quality surprising enough to make a difference in how I do my job. It is not for heavy cameras but works for my JVC GY170. Using it versus just my arms means I get less fatigued and combining it with some flexible knees it allows me to get better handheld shots which can be enhanced with stabilizing effects found in editors. The strap is adjustable and allows for a comfortable experience. I was very skeptical but it has helped me and made a difference. Well worth the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good value for price The shoulder support comes with a bag of its own and a strap. The strap makes it hands free and easy to move around between shots. The lightweight construction makes is a breeze to carry around but it also makes it easier to break in the connections. My team has went through three of these in shoulder supports, 2 by Revo and 1 by another brand, in about 14 months. You need to be extra careful in tightening your camera on the mount. We are very careful but still, this is where the breaks occur. Stillit has value for the price and especially if you do not plan to use it consistently in weddings, etc., like we do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the Price This is a relatively simple and relatively effective means of shooting hand held video. It takes a couple of minutes to figure out how to set up and to get the rig adjusted to your body. Once that's done, it is a reasonably good camera support. One wekness in the design is that the thumb screw that attaches the camera plate needs to be very tight to prevent camera rotation. It's difficult to get it tight enough by hand. I used a small pair of pliers and the thumb screw handle broke off. However, I was able to use pliers to get it tight enough and it is also easy to remove with pliers - a minor annoyance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Useful I bought this for a different use then it was intended for, I use it for mounting my field audio recorder for use in film production sound. It works perfectly for this as it keeps it always at eye level and it does not get in the way of the boom. I highly recommend trying this instead of an audio bag; which are pretty pricey.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Better Ft and Shooting Horizontal I am 5'10" 240 lbs. Opening up the support to it full extent my camera would be aimed about 15 to 20 degree off horizontal. The problem was the top archover the shoulder. They way I resolved this was to use a heat gun on the top shoulder arch and bending it to fit my frame and s slight bend on the extention mountto lower the angle. with me standing erect the camera now shoots horizontal and it me much better. a little heat and a gental preasure can refigue the unit to fit better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For the price you can't beat it. Okay, so it's not a " professional " shoulder support. If you want bang for your buck you can't beat it. I've only used it about 3 times but it gets the job done. Is it made to be rough handled and tossed around? NO but if you don't abuse it, it works great. The only little thing I found that bothered me was attaching the mount that has the tripod type mount for your camera. The little brass threaded insert that the screw that mount it to the solder support was molded too deep in the plastic and it was a bit of a problem to get the screw started into the plastic. Once threaded into the plastic it worked just fine. Once again B&H has come through with a great bargain on a budget.? Thanks B&H.
