Nikon 13187 overview

  • 1Description

Nikon's D600 DSLR Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens features a full-frame 24.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor in a compact body and an all-purpose zoom lens that suits most situations. And with a full-sized sensor also comes a powerful engine; the EXPEED 3 processing system enables features such as 5.5 fps continuous shooting at full resolution. Also, compact as it may be, the D600 still fits in a 3.2" LCD monitor.

The 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens included with the D600 camera body is a standard lens that can capture everything from wide-angle to telephoto, allowing the photographer to shoot to their heart's content from day one. It further features a 7-blade rounded diaphragm opening, which enables bokeh, three aspherical lens elements, one extra-low dispersion ED element, and auto tripod detection.

The D600 camera body also has other hardy features that allow the camera to stretch for the photographer's needs. Such features include a wide ISO range of 100-6400, which is also expandable to 50-25600. This allows shots to be captured in a variety of lighting situations, from low-light to bright, with minimal image noise. The camera also has 39 focus points for wide-area AF coverage for both stills and HD video capture.

Other ways that the D600 enables the photographer to focus on the job at hand include features like Nikon's well-known metering and onboard intelligence. The camera uses the company's intelligent Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II for beautiful, high-def images. This metering takes into account brightness, contrast, subject distance, and the scene colors for accurate, balanced photos. The i-TTL flash, auto white balance, subject tracking, and autofocus all come into play as well.

The D600 is an HDSLR, featuring 1080p HD video capture. Selectable frame rates include 30/25/24p at the highest resolution and 30/25/24p at 720p. Other useful features at the photographer's disposal for shooting movies include full-time AF with face-priority, dedicated inputs for a stereo mic and headphones, Simultaneous Live View, and then some.

The Nikon D600 is compatible with F-mount NIKKOR interchangeable lenses (both FX and DX-format), giving the photographer a wealth of options. Additionally, the camera can be used with Nikon's WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter for wireless transfer of images to a smartphone or tablet. The adapter can even be used for remotely capturing images with the D600 using the compatible app.

Compact Full-Frame HDSLR
Full-frame, high-resolution performance is available in a compact, affordable HDSLR - the D600. The camera's 24.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor captures every detail with lifelike sharpness. Its EXPEED 3 processing system manages all that data with speed and accuracy, enabling up to 5.5 frames-per-second (fps) continuous shooting at full resolution. The camera also features a fast power-up (0.13 seconds) and minimal shutter release lag (0.052 seconds). And the low-light performance synonymous with Nikon is again proven deserved-shoot crystal clear images from ISO 100 to 6400, expandable down to 50 and up to 25,600 for extreme situations.
AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens Included
The D600 body comes bundled with an all-purpose AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens:

Three Aspherical Lens Elements
This is another unique Nikon innovation, which virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberration, further improving image integrity

One Extra-low Dispersion (ED) Element
A single ED element offers superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration - even at the widest aperture settings

Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC)
Nikon's Super Integrated Coating enhances light transmission and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare

M/A (Manual/Auto) Focus Mode Switch
This NIKKOR lens features a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens

Exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM)
A significant innovation in AF lens technology, Nikon's Silent Wave Motor uses ultrasonic (inaudible) vibrations-rather than a gear system-to focus the lens, providing incredibly smooth, silent and precise autofocus operation

Close Focus
With a close range focus, you'll be able to focus to 1.25 feet at every focal length

Nikon VR (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization
Nikon VR (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization, which is tailored to each lens, enables handheld shooting at up to four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible for dramatically sharper images and HD videos - even in low light

Auto Tripod Detection
Nikon's Vibration Reduction image stabilization system recognizes when the camera is mounted on a tripod and provides precise shutter vibration correction

Internal Focusing
All internal optical movement is limited to the interior of the non-extending lens barrel, which allows for a more compact, lightweight construction - as well as a closer focusing distance

Rounded 7-Blade Diaphragm
The rounded 7-blade diaphragm renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings

Other Features
-Wide angle G-Type lens with distance information
-Three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion glass ED element

Highly Accurate AF System for Superior Sharpness
The D600 has 39 focus points that provide wide-area AF coverage and offer seemingly endless compositional possibilities. The 9 cross-type sensors and 7 center focus points work all the way down to f/8.0 for extended AF functionality with teleconverters and long-reach lenses. When shooting photos or HD video in Live View, Nikon's responsive contrast-detect AF activates for accurate full time auto focusing
Metering and Onboard Intelligence
The D600 delivers consistently beautiful still images and HD videos, thanks to Nikon's intelligent Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II. Its 2,016 pixel RGB sensor evaluates every scene, taking into account brightness, contrast, subject distance and the scene colors, all within the time it takes to press the shutter release button. That data is then referenced against an onboard image database for consistently accurate exposures, auto white balance, i-TTL flash and subject-tracking autofocus performance
Cinema-Quality HD Video Projects
Shoot 1080p HD videos with selectable frame rates of 30p, 25p or 24p and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression. Bend time with 720p HD at 60p, 50p or 30p for ultra-smooth video playback of fast moving subjects, or create slow-motion footage during post processing. Maintain your creative vision with full-time AF with face-priority and subject tracking, dedicated inputs for a stereo mic and headphones, still image exporting, and much more. Enhance all that with the dramatic perspectives and depth-of-field control of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses. Note that while shooting in D-movie mode, aperture cannot be controlled manually.
Share Images Easily with the WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter
Using the optional WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter, users can automatically send great pictures to their smartphone or tablet and even remotely capture images from the D600. With its simple app, now when you can't wait to share that great image, you don't have to. Share it to your smartphone or tablet in an instant

    Nikon 13187 reviews

D600 DSLR Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 198.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great camera but sensor spotting issues After only having the camera for three weeks and taking about 400 photos, I started reading about spots showing up on the sensor and becoming visible in photos when shooting above f/5. So I tested my D600 and sure enough I have the same issue! Right now I have two spots in the upper left hand corner on any shot over f/5. My choices were to return it for a refund/ exchange or send it in to Nikon Servicing. I sent it in for servicing because other than the spotting issue the camera takes amazing photos and I've heard from others that after it's returned from servicing the spotting issue didn't reoccur. But it cost me $ to ship it fully insured.Kind of disappointed since I've had my D90 for three years and had absolutely no problem with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pleased I wanted a full frame camera without the cost and size of the pro cameras. I found the D600 to be a perfect size for me and the price was reasonable. I have something called essential tremors in my left hand but I am able to hold this camera in a more stable manner and the VR in the 24-85 lens allows me to take hand held photos that would have required the use of a tripod with my D300. The ISO range is amazing and the clarity of the shots has to be seen to be appreciated. I have only taken a few hundred shots so far but I am really pleased with the performance of this camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FX format the Only way to go I purchased a D7000 w/80-200 & 10-24 in December 2012, upgraded from a D80.Definalty better picture quality. My photographs were 100% better. The D7000 is a fantastic camera. I wanted to take my photography to the next level as my friends said I missed my calling. So I decided to purchase the D600 w/24-85 kit lense.I also have a 70-300. The D600 arrived PM on May 13th. Next day I was totally blown away with the image quality! The FX format full 35mm sensor takes you to a Pro level of photography. The low light capability of the camera is Amazing! 6400 ISO not a problem. I have taken just about 3000 pictures and this camera still amazes me as to what it can do. FX format is the only way to go, you will be amazed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more lens conversion factors! I've re-visited full format with purchase of used Nikon film cameras, having started with black and white in the darkroom over fifty years ago. I've loved my D300, but the FX format feels familiar now and in my limited time with the D600 I've loved it. I shoot mostly nature and travel and appreciate the great detail which it captures through a big bright viewfinder. While the build quality feels a bit less rugged than the D300 (and is remarkably less robust than my F5), the lighter body is great for carrying all day. I look forward to learning and using it more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good value I've been using Nikon F3's for several years and have been waiting for an affordable full frame digital to use with my Nikkor prime lenses. The D600 met my requirements. The 24 megapixel sensor resolution is outstanding and is more than sufficient for making moderately large prints (16X20) or less. The camera with the kit lens is light enough to carry around and it is very well built. In my case, it's taking me a long time to learn and appreciate all the camera functions since I am use to the far simpler film camera controls. However, I highly recommend this camera/lens combination for anyone moving from a Nikon film SLR to the digital age.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent so far I'm coming from a D90, which I loved except for some situations where I needed better ISO performance. The D600 is absolutely fantastic in this regard. I can push it to 6400 and still get shots that are better than 1600 on the D90. The size of the camera is pretty much identical to the D90, which is fine. The controls are also very similar, with a couple minor differences. Video is much better with the 600, though I wish it did 1080/60p and/or 720/120. The inability to change the aperture in live view is ridiculous, but I understand that will be fixed with a firmware update sometime soon. The 24-85 lens is no slouch, very good for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely a Game Changer I was a little afraid of this camera because of the oil spots rumors, but i never got any, so i'm assuming Nikon fixed it :) this camera is just AMAZING!!! it focuses fast enough, and what i love the most is the impressive ISO performance, picture and video look fantastic even at ISO 5000, believe me, this camera is in a way less expensive than the Nikon d800, but for what it does the price is quite cheap. One thing i kind of didn't like is that the color you see in your video monitor may not end up being the same on a bigger screen so i just rather shoot a flat video and not worry about having over saturated colors :) other than that this camera is definitely worth the money and you won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic camera with accessories After being an avid film photographer many (many, many) years ago, finally took the dive into a digital camera above small point and shoots. Fantastic camera and lense. Kit offered by B&H comes with very good accessories for 'free' beyond cost of camera. Monopod, memory, and wireless module are great. Bag is very good quality, but not very big (holds this camera and lense, but you need a bigger bag if you have any other lenses). Camera takes great pictures with the basic 'auto' type settings and I'm really impressed with the lense considering it's a kit lense. Have a lot to learn on this camera as compared to when Reagan was president though!
