I grew up skiing almost every day, and was on my first pair of skis at age two. The high school I attended in Colorado even let us out at 11:00 a.m. during the winter months, so that we could ski or snowboard every day of the week if we wanted. The point of this little anecdote is to stress how much watching the Winter games still excites me and makes me nostalgic for my years in the mountains.
The holiday season is upon us and snow is already falling in the mountains. I’ve just planned my first weekend ski trip to Vermont in January, so now it’s time to dust off my skis and pull my winter clothes out from the back of the closet. I thought I’d also get a GoPro HERO3+ action camera this year, so I’ll be able to record all my friends skiing and snowboarding this winter.
GoPro has just announced their new and improved HERO3+ action cameras, as well as several accessories including a variety of new mounts. The new HERO3+ cameras are smaller and lighter. Plus, they feature faster Wi-Fi, improved image quality, new and exciting shooting modes, a longer-lasting battery, and more.
Admittedly, it seems that this year’s CES breakout products were more about big tablets, smart TVs and gaming, but a few standout cameras and camcorders were introduced last week that will most likely be hot items in the year to come and, for camcorders, might even signal a path for a new marketing niche.
In this third part of our Action/Sports Cameras series, Kelby Media's Mia McCormick reviews the Sony HDR AS15 and the Looxcie HD Explore, two cameras with similar lightweight form factors but some very different strengths and shortcomings.
As the weather finally changes and snow begins to fall in the mountains, many of us are dusting off our skis and snowboards, pulling our winter clothes from the back of the closet, planning weekend trips to the mountains and checking the conditions at our local ski resorts. Now, you can share your best tricks and the deepest powder with everyone who wasn’t there.
Everybody wants something better for their children than they had for themselves. It’s a function of the American dream. It’s also a manufacturer’s dream. The hottest new toy can create a frenzy around the holiday season that can only be duplicated in certain shark-infested waters in the Pacific.
