The MK350 handheld spectrometer is a marvel of engineering. It slices, dices, and makes coffee. Okay, it doesn’t make coffee, but it is the first self-contained handheld spectrometer—awesomely impressive, as prior spectrometers were either bulky desk units with separate probes or required connection to a computer to give you readings.
Sony has just announced the release of their first 4K Ultra HD TV for retail sale. The new X900 Series 4K Ultra HD 3D Internet TV is also one of the industry’s first available 4K televisions. Available in a 55-inch or 65-inch model, the X900 features a 3D LCD panel with 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD 4K resolution. Amazingly, that’s four times the resolution of a standard Full HD 1920 x 1080p television.

There’s no arguing that Sharp has continually been at the forefront of consumer trends, and for 2013, the CES tradeshow in Las Vegas made it clear that the consumer is demanding larger TV panels that offer more ways to “connect” with media sources. Taking this knowledge to heart, Sharp surpassed every one of their major competitors by equipping 85% of all their 2013 retail TVs with “Smart” Internet connectivity.
Way back—five years ago—if you shot video, you used a video camera, and if you shot photographs, you used a still camera. Today, that distinction is all but meaningless. Almost every video camera today captures stills, and virtually every still camera now shoots video.
This video discusses night-vision videography and takes a look at two cameras, Sony’s HXR-NX70U and HDR-PJ760V, both of which have built-in infrared modes. You’ll learn the basics of working with infrared light and how to improve your night-vision videos with special, infrared light kits, like the Sima SL-100IR and the Litepanels MiniPlus IR.
The first thing you notice about the ASUS PB278Q 27” Widescreen LED-Backlit LCD Monitor is its large 27-inch screen. Considering that this is a monitor and you’ll be sitting much closer to it than you would to an HDTV, the 27 inches really becomes magnified.

Whether you’re a pro, gear head, or hobbyist here are some simple things you can do to make the carbon footprint of your photo / video / audio work a little smaller.
I'm a big fan of cameras that fit in my pocket. I'm also aware of how dainty some of the tinier digicams can be, which is why I've been even a bigger fan of the more rugged, tough digicams that have come to market over the past couple of years from Olympus, Panasonic, Canon, and Fuji. Add to this list the Pentax Optio W90.
The most compelling technology story of 2009 was actually a marketing story. Samsung nearly single-handedly managed to re-label an emerging category of LCD TVs as LED TVs. The campaign was Initially received by tech-knowledgeable consumers and Samsung’s competitors as unorthodox at best, misleading at worst. After all, Samsung was still selling LCD TVs no matter whether florescent- or LED-backlit. But as the year unfolded the outrage subsided and competitors started adopting the same terminology as a brilliant marketing strategy.
