Classic Cameras: the Pentax K1000 SLR Film Camera

Our lives are marked by firsts. First love, first car, first marriage, first kid, first heartbreak, and first camera. For many photographers of my generation, earlier generations, and younger generations, there are legions who can say that their first “real camera” was the Pentax K1000. With a production run spanning more than two decades (1976-1997), more than three million of these film SLRs were sold.

The Lens Every Photographer Should Have and Use: the 35mm

To answer the question posed by fellow writer Todd Vorenkamp in his article about the venerable 50mm prime, the lens I would choose if I were to be stranded on a desert island would have to be a 35mm prime. Sure, the 50mm is an old and reliable choice that should cover most subjects, but it doesn’t work amazingly for anything specific and, frankly, I think it’s a little boring these days.

It’s a bit of a stretch, but for the sake of the Hallmark set, I can say that I love flip-out LCD screens on cameras. What I really love is the effect they have had on my photography and the creative possibilities they enable when photographing, especially for street photography. My first camera with a flip-out (and swivel) articulating LCD was the 4MP Canon PowerShot G3, which I purchased in 2003.
