Taking Ultrabooks to the Next Level
By now, the term Ultrabook has been used time and time again to describe thin lightweight laptops. By definition, an Ultrabook is generally a notebook-style computer measuring around 0.5” thick and weighing around 2 to 3 lb. As Ultrabook computers have developed, they have become increasingly lighter, faster, and more efficient by incorporating components such as advanced Intel Core Processors, solid-state drives (SSDs), and unibody chassis. Now that Ultrabooks have become somewhat mainstream in today’s computer market, there comes the need to create an Ultrabook that stands out from the crowd.
The Basics
The Acer Aspire S7 series of Ultrabook computers incorporates form and function into this compact package. Whether you choose the 11.6” Aspire S7-191-6640 or the 13.3” Aspire S7-391-6810, you benefit from a third-generation 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5-3317U Dual-Core processor with integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics as well as 4GB of DDR3 SDRAM for multi-tasking on the go. Aside from the enhanced processing power, you also have sufficient space to store your movies, pictures and other important files in the 128GB SSD.
The third-generation Ivy Bridge 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5-3317U processor found within each model of the Aspire S7 Ultrabooks is a dual core processor capable of being over-clocked to 2.6 GHz for even more processing power. Along with the integrated Turbo Boost technology, you also benefit from Hyper Threading technology, nearly doubling the processing power as the operating system addresses both cores, thus sharing the workload between each core.
As you may already know, random access memory, otherwise referred to as RAM, is essential for the proper functionality of any computer. The Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks do not disappoint, as they each come with 4GB of onboard memory. This amount of memory assists in multitasking, allowing you to carry out tasks such as watching a movie, typing a document, and Web browsing all at the same time—with little to no decrease in performance.
The Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks also take full advantage of SSD functionality, as both models come equipped with a 128GB SSD. This solid-state drive support greatly reduces the time it takes to save and access your files. Booting up your Ultrabook is another benefit of a solid state drive, as each of these Aspire S7 Ultrabooks can boot up in just under 8 seconds and shut down in roughly 11 seconds. The inclusion of the SSD into the S7 also helps reduce the size and weight of the device, as SSDs are exponentially smaller than traditional HDDs.
Connectivity is another major point of concern when deciding if an Ultrabook is right for you. Due to the reduced size of Ultrabooks, many of them don’t have the standard ports found on a traditional notebook computer. The Aspire S7 is no different. Acer has chosen to eliminate the integrated Ethernet port—although they do include a USB Ethernet dongle for wired connectivity. For wireless data connectivity, you can take advantage of the integrated 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi or Bluetooth 4.0.
Ultrabooks often do tend to lack when it comes to ports. The Aspire S7 series of Ultrabooks bucks this trend, as it comes with two USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port. The dual USB 3.0 ports are perfect for connecting peripherals such as external hard drives to supplement the 128GB SSD, printers as well as optical drives and more. Each USB 3.0-compatible device you connect will be able to take advantage of SuperSpeed data transfer capabilities provided by the USB 3.0 connection. The Integrated HDMI port expands your viewing ability, as you can easily plug a variety of monitors and even TVs directly to your Ultrabook.
Aspire Adds a Touch of Flair
Gone are the days of carrying around a separate, bulky USB mouse. Thanks to Windows 8, you can now interact with your computer via the touch screen. Both the Aspire S7-191 and the Aspire S7-391 come outfitted with a 10 point Capacitive Touch Screen. With Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and 16:9 cinematic aspect ratio, your touch screen is not only fully interactive but stunning to behold.
As with many touch-screen devices, the concern is that the screens can get scratch or damaged easily. This worry is addressed in the Aspire S7-391-6810 with the inclusion of tough-as-nails Corning Gorilla Glass 2. By using this glass for the 13.3” display found in the Aspire S7-391-6810 Ultrabook, Acer has not only reduced the weight of their computer, they have added durability to the touch screen. While the Aspire S7-391-6810 comes equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 2, the smaller 11.6” Aspire S7-191-6640 comes with a standard display as well as an aluminum lid.
The touch screen does not mean that you can’t still interact with the computer in traditional ways. The integrated touchpad makes for easy navigation throughout your computer while the electroluminescent backlit chiclet style keyboard lights up automatically in low-lit environments, reducing eye strain.
180 Degrees of Fun
A traditional notebook computer opens up to reveal a display, and usually this display can be manipulated slightly to ensure a comfortable viewing angle. That traditional viewing angle usually only opens to a specific point, thus limiting how far back you can adjust the screen. That is not the case with the 13.3” Acer Aspire S7-391-6810 Ultrabook. This Ultrabook comes equipped with an ingenious unibody design, allowing you to manipulate the display a full 180 degrees, which makes it possible to open the Ultrabook flat on a table or desk. This feature also lets more than one user navigate the touch screen, making it the perfect device for collaborating on projects or playing games.
Entertainment on the Go
The Aspire S7 Ultrabooks make it possible to take your movies, photos, videos and more with you virtually anywhere you go, as each model of the Aspire S7 weights less than three pounds. Along with the reduced weight, they also only measure 0.5” thick when closed.
You media comes to life on the high definition, 1920 x 1080 display with cinematic widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. The Aspire S7-191's 11.6” display and the Aspire S7-391's 13.3” display are LED backlit, multitouch-capable displays supported by the integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics GPU. Accompanying the gorgeous displays are a pair of Dolby Home Theater speakers, located at on the bottom of the Ultrabook. You can also interact with friends and family via the integrated webcam and microphone.
The Aspire S7 series of Ultrabooks from Acer are the perfect combination of style and functionality. They come equipped with the necessary memory and processing power to get your work done. Once the work is behind you, sit back and relax while taking in a movie on the stunning HD display, play a game using the capacitive touch-screen display, or keep up with friends and family via the integrated webcam and microphone. The Aspire S7 series knows how to keep you entertained and connected.
