It’s easy to see why all-in-one desktop computer systems are so appealing, especially when you use one of the new ASUS 23.6-inch all-in-one computers as an example. They’re powerful, attractive, compact and affordable.
The new ASUS all-in-ones contain cutting-edge components in sleek, modern and stylish enclosures that will enhance the appearance of any room in your home. They take up much less space than traditional desktop computers and they can cost a lot less. ASUS offers two different ET2410 models. Although the two units are physically identical on the outside, the more expensive model features a faster processor, more memory and a more spacious hard drive. Before we examine the differences between the two models, let’s take a look at the features they share.
The 23.6-Inch Multi-Touch Display
All-in-one computers typically feature a generously sized flat-panel display, but the ET2410 goes a step further, adding multi-touch functionality to the display. A multi-touch display lets you use your fingers to click through websites, play games, flip through photo albums. Multi-touch means that you can use more than one finger at once, so you can spread images apart from the corners to make them bigger, use a pinching motion to make them smaller and perform other multi-gesture motions in an intuitive manner.
The LED-backlit display is powered by integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 processor, which shares system memory as needed to deliver eye-popping graphics and smooth, flawless video. The 23.6-inch display has 1920 x 1080 native resolution, which is native for Full HD content. Speaking of HD content, the ET2410 features an HDMI input, which lets you connect a Blu-ray player, HD camcorder or another HD signal source to the system. It also has a built-in hybrid analog/digital TV tuner, which lets it double as an HDTV. This is great for dorm rooms and any other location where space is tight. Of course, the system also has HDMI and VGA outputs in case you want to display the output on a larger HDTV or computer monitor.
Other Common Features
While space-saving in nature, the ET2410 is nonetheless a full-featured system. Unlike many of the latest notebook computers that don’t contain optical drives, the ET2410 features a Super Multi DVD burner that can read and write all types of CDs and DVDs. Connectivity options include 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, two side USB 3.0 ports and three rear USB 2.0 ports. The USB 3.0 ports let you take advantage of the faster transfer rates offered by the latest USB 3.0 peripherals coming to market. The system also features a 3-in-1 memory card reader that supports SD, SDHC and MMC memory cards, making this system quite user friendly for snappers of digital images.
Premium sound is part of the ET2410 experience—it’s equipped with DTS Surround Sound and integrated stereo speakers with 3 watts of amplification power apiece. You’ll appreciate the good sound quality when you listen to music, watch a movie or have a video chat using the integrated 1.3-megapixel webcam. The system also features an integrated microphone along with a microphone input that accommodates external microphones, if you prefer. A headphone output lets you enjoy audio or video entertainment without disturbing others around you.
The ET2410 comes with a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse, along with the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system. The system is 23.2 inches wide by 18.1 inches high by 2.4 inches deep (at its thinnest point) and 9 inches (at its thickest point) and it weighs 23.8 pounds. Now let’s see what separates these two models.
Intel Core i3 in the ASUS ET2410IUTS-B019C
The main difference between the two ET2410s is the type of processor, followed by the amount of memory and the size of the hard drive. The ET2410IUTS-B019C Multi-Touch Desktop Computer is powered by a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i3-2100 processor. The processor features 64-bit architecture with two cores and a 3MB smart cache. The ET2410IUTS-B019C also features 4GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM and a 500GB 7200 rpm SATA II hard drive. This system is powerful enough to handle anything you might want to throw at it, and it’s a great value.
Intel Core i5 in the ASUS ET2410IUTS-B018C
The ET2410IUTS-B018C Multi-Touch Desktop Computer is powered by a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5-2310 processor. The processor features 64-bit architecture with four cores and a 6MB smart cache. Unlike the Core i3 processor, the Core i5 features Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology which allows the processor to run faster than its rated speed, provided that its power, current and temperature readings are within their rated limits. In this case, the Core i5-2310 processor can run at clock speeds up to 3.2 GHz when the operating system requests maximum performance. The ET2410IUTS-B018C also features 6GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM memory and a 1TB 7200 rpm SATA II hard drive.
When time is money, this is the system to have. The more powerful Core i5 processor and higher memory count can rip through processor-intensive tasks such as video encoding and 3D modeling faster than the Core i3.
