When an under-the-desk tower is too imposing and a notebook too cramped, consider an all-in-one desktop computer such as the Dell Inspiron One 2305. Available in three configurations, the 2305 series offers a stylish tabletop system for anyone looking to save space without sacrificing an ample keyboard and full-size screen.
The Dell Inspiron One 2305 Desktop Computer hides the computer in a wide 23-inch LED-lit 1080p (1,920 x 1,080) display. You control the system using a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse and, with one model, a remote control, too. When the system is idle, you can simply tuck the keyboard under the screen. You have the choice of a non-touch screen or a multi-touch screen and a DVD or Blu-ray Disc drive. The Blu-ray model even includes a TV tuner.
The least expensive of the three is the Inspiron One 2305-543MSL, with a 23-inch non-touch 1080p screen. The system has the same wireless keyboard and mouse as its touch-enabled siblings, the identical silver design and the same 22.4 x 3.5 x 16.6 inches (W x D x H) dimensions. The 543MSL contains a 500-Gigabyte hard drive for media storage and 1.3-Megapixel webcam. It’s powered by an AMD Athlon II X2 240e dual-core 2.8 GHz processor with integrated ATI Radeon HD 4270 Graphics and 4GB of memory. There’s a built-in 8X DVD+/-RW optical drive.
The mid-performance 2305-1109MSL includes a multi-touch screen, 2.0MP Webcam, and 1-Terabyte hard drive, and it has the same processor, graphics chip, memory and optical drive as the 543MSL.
The high-end 2305-10000MSL has the same multi-touch screen (so you can enlarge photos with two fingers or use an assortment of hand and finger controls), webcam and hard drive as the 1109MSL, but it uses an AMD Athlon II X4 610e Quad Core processor with a 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5470 graphics chip and 8GB of memory. A built-in Blu-ray Disc (BD) combo reads BD media and writes to a DVD/CD. There’s also a TV tuner and a remote. If you really want to save space, the 2305-10000MSL permits a computer and TV to occupy the same space.
What these Inspiron Ones all have in common are the Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) operating system, 7-in-1 Media Card Reader, integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet, Dell Wireless-N Wi-Fi connectivity, 6 USB 2.0 ports (2 side, 4 back), a microphone and a headphone jack. The systems are preloaded with Microsoft Office Starter 2010 productivity software, though you’ll need to purchase a product key to activate the full-featured Office software. A 30-day trial of McAfee Security Center with Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and Firewall is included.
The Inspiron One computers also come with Dell Stage software for viewing, syncing and sharing such content as your photos, videos and music between Dell computers, smartphones and tablets. Another supplied program, SyncUP, powered by Nero, can automatically sync files, including paid entertainment, across supported devices within your home's Wi-Fi network, and store it in the cloud without charge.
