Now Mac users and PC users can share their operating system experiences with Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac. This virtualization software lets you enjoy the latest Windows and Mac applications side-by-side without rebooting your computer.
You can use the latest Mountain Lion and Lion features in Windows apps, and even access your Windows and Mac programs from your iPad or iPhone with the optional Parallels Mobile app (available separately for purchase in the App Store).
New features in this program include the ability to use Mountain Lion’s Dictation tool in both Mac and Windows apps, implementing Mac OS X Mountain Lion features like Launchpad and Mission Control with Windows applications, and the ability to switch from Safari to the same page in Internet Explorer with a single click when viewing pages that present conflicting rendering situations.
Also new are features that let you run presentations, videos and other full-screen Windows apps more easily with Fullscreen on Demand, and Retina display support for both Mac and Windows. There’s also a Presentation Wizard which allows you to show presentations from your Mac on any external monitor or projector. You can also run Mac OS X Mountain Lion as a guest operating system or share Bluetooth devices like the Facetime HD Camera between Mac and Windows. There’s even a shared Trash Can so that your Mac Trash Can and Windows Recycle Bin can be managed from one desktop.
A number of features have been enhanced as well, including the viewing of hard drive space limitations on your virtual machine, and using standard MAC OS X system preferences to set keyboard shortcuts instead of using the preferences panel in Parallels Desktop. There’s even a Coherence Mode, which runs Windows but hides the Windows desktop in the background. Windows apps will appear in the Mac Dock, so that you can switch between them without using the Windows interface.
You can now receive a free version of this software with every Mac purchase from B&H Photo. Simply:
- Find the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro or Mac Pro that you want to purchase.
- Under the “Buy Together and Save” heading below the Product Highlights, click on “Click Here to Select your Choice of FREE Software.”
