Using a notebook computer as a source for HD content to be viewed 
on a big screen TV is becoming more and more common. With easy access to downloadable HD content and notebooks having hard drives large enough to store HD content and enough muscle to process it, there’s no reason not to view the content on an HDTV…
...except, perhaps, the hassle of connecting wires all the time. Fortunately, Intel’s WiDi technology eliminates the hassle.
There’s no longer any reason to crowd around a small laptop screen just to share multimedia content. Intel’s Wireless Display technology, also called WiDi, lets you share content from your hard disk, home network or browser on your big screen TV. Family and friends can now take in videos, photos and music from the most comfortable seats in the house.
The key to making all of this happen is 
Netgear’s Push2TV adapter. The Push2TV adapter works with any notebook computer that features Intel WiDi technology. In a nutshell, the notebook transmits its video output wirelessly to the Push2TV adapter, which then feeds the signal through HDMI and composite outputs to a high-definition TV.
The Push2TV adapter works with any notebook that features a 2010 Intel Core processor with WiDi support. You also need Windows 7 64-bit, Home Premium, Ultimate or Professional and a TV with an HDMI or composite input. The Push2TV adapter measures only 5.4 x 1.25 x 4.2 inches, so it can easily be hidden amongst all your other video gear or behind the TV set itself. The Push2TV adapter costs $99.95. 
The specific list of WiDi-compatible hardware, including processor, graphics, chip set and WiFi components keeps growing. So rather than attempt to list all the requirements, let’s just go over some of the notebooks that are WiDi-compatible.
The ASUS U30Jc-B1 notebook computer is WiDi-compatible. This little powerhouse features a 13.3-inch widescreen display, a 2.4GHz Intel Core i3-370M processor and 4GB of memory. It also features a 320GB hard drive, SuperMulti DVD burner, nVIDIA/Intel hybrid graphics and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.
Hewlett-Packard’s Pavilion dv5-2070us is also a WiDi-compatible notebook. This unit features a 14.5-inch widescreen display, a 2.26GHz Intel Core i3-350M processor, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, a SuperMulti DVD burner with LightScribe, Intel GMA HD graphics, and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.
Sony’s VAIO EA VPCEA22FX is another WiDi-compatible notebook. Equipped with a 14-inch widescreen display, this unit includes a 2.26GHz Intel Core i3-350M processor, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, a SuperMulti DVD burner, Intel GMA HD graphics and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. Available in black, white, blue and pink.
The Sony VAIO EB VPCEB23FX is also WiDi compatible. This unit sports a 15.5-inch widescreen display, a 2.26GHz Core i3-350M processor, 4GB of memory, 320GB hard drive, SuperMulti DVD burner, Intel GMA HD graphics and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. It comes in black, brown and white. 
Blu-ray and HDTV go together like french fries and ketchup. That’s why the Sony VAIO EB VPCEB25FX is an ideal match for the Netgear Push2TV adapter. In addition to its 15.5-inch widescreen display, 2.26GHz Core i3-350M processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, Intel GMA HD graphics and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, this notebook also includes a Blu-ray ROM DVD burner. The drive can play Blu-ray discs and also read and write to DVD media. Blu-ray makes little sense when confined to a notebook computer display, but if you can wirelessly transmit the Blu-ray video to an HDTV set, it makes all the sense in the world. The VAIO EB VPCEB25FX is available in black and white.
If you want a WiDi-compatible notebook with a little more processing power, check out the Sony VAIO EB VPCEB26FX. It can’t play Blu-ray movies but it does feature a 2.26GHz Core i5-430M processor. It also includes a 15.5-inch widescreen display, SuperMulti DVD burner, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, Intel GMA HD graphics and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. It comes in black.
