Don't Forget to Reserve Windows 10

0Share

If you have a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 PC, you probably already got the notification from Microsoft urging you to reserve your copy of Windows 10. With July 29th almost here, you should reserve your copy to ensure you get access to Windows 10 as soon as possible. Here are the simple steps to reserving your copy.

Reserving your copy is fairly straightforward. The "Get Windows 10" app will push a notification asking you to reserve your copy. If you missed the notification, you can simply click on the small Windows icon found at the right end of the taskbar. Click "Reserve Your Free Upgrade" in the app window. Enter your email if you want a confirmation of your reservation and you're finished. You'll get a notification after July 29th once Windows 10 is downloaded to your device. After it is installed, you'll have Windows 10 for free on that device.

If you didn't get the notification at all or if you can't find the small Windows icon in your taskbar, there are several additional steps you can to take. The first thing you should do is update your Windows 7 or 8.1 operating system to the latest version. Then you can reserve your Windows 10 copy through the "Get Windows 10" app that comes from the update or through the Windows Update control panel.

Please note that the Windows 10 version you will be getting is directly related to your current version of Windows 7 or Windows 8. See the charts below for details.

You probably noticed that Windows RT is not listed. That's because Windows RT will not be able to upgrade to Windows 10. However, Microsoft stated that it will have an update for Windows RT around the time of the Windows 10 release.

Please note that not everyone will be getting Windows 10 on July 29th. Microsoft will be rolling out Windows 10 in waves to ensure Windows 10 is running smoothly and that there are no last-minute surprises or bugs. If you're in the Windows Insiders program, you'll most likely receive Windows 10 first. After that, it'll be people who reserved their copy. That's why you should reserve your copy if you want Windows 10 as soon as possible. If you miss the July 29th reservation date, you can still update to Windows 10, you'll just receive it later than others. Also, the only real deadline you should worry about is July 29th, 2016, which is the last day you can get Windows 10 for free.
