EA held its annual EA Play event a few days before E3 2019 officially kicked off. The company showcased upcoming games, updates on existing IPs, and announced an expansion pack for The Sims. Read on for more details.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
If you remember last year's EA Play, the only news we got about this game was from Respawn's Vice Zampella, who just happened to be in the audience. He announced the title of the game and gave a bit of backstory. Now, at EA Play 2019, we got a full gameplay reveal presentation. The demo revolved around Jedi Cal Kestis as he explored the wookie homeworld of Kashyyyk. He traverses an imperial base while slicing through stormtroopers with ease. Later on, Kestis takes on intimidating Purge Troopers with lightsaber combat. May the Force be with you on November 15, 2019, available on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
Apex Legends
Apex Legends is getting a Season 2. Called "Battle Charged," it'll have bunch of new features, like a new Legend. Wattson is the 10th Legend, and her defensive abilities help counter offense-oriented characters. She can build her own defensive structures with electric fences that damage other players. Her ultimate is called Interception Pylon. Wattson will put down a pylon that destroys incoming attacks and refills the shields of her teammates. There's also a new gun called the L-Star. Sharing a gold rarity like the Kraber and the Mastiff, you'll only be able to loot this gun in supply drops. While the L-Star packs a punch, like shattering doors, it uses unique ammo so you won't be able to find more in King's Canyon. Competitive players will be pleased to hear that a ranked mode is coming. It will pit the best players against each other and will have separate rewards. It was also hinted that some weapons will see some rebalancing, with a not-so-indirect reference to the meme-able Mozambique shotgun. Jump into Season 2 starting July 2, 2019, available on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
Battlefield V
Battlefield V is getting new multiplayer maps as Chapter 5 will see the game move to the Pacific Theater of World War II. One of the maps that was revealed was Iwo Jima. A classic weapon is also making a return, the M1 Garand rifle. Chapter 5 content is expected to arrive in November 2019. Those weren't the only maps that developer DICE showed off. They also showed Al Sundan, Marita, and Operation Underground multiplayer maps, which have June, July, and October release dates, respectively, available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
FIFA 20
FIFA 20 will be getting a new mode called VOLTA Football. In VOLTA Football, you'll be able to build your own character and have an immersive, realistic street football experience. With a new style of gameplay, grounded in football realism, you'll get into the flow of the street with new tools, including simplified flicks and skill moves, new flair animations, and even use a teammate as a wall. FIFA 20 will also raise the authenticity of your experience on the pitch. AI will be more aware of your position on the pitch, overhaul of shooting fundamentals help you score goals more consistently and clinically, and realistic ball physics help establish varied shot trajectories. Step onto the pitch on September 27, 2019, available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4.
Madden 20
Madden 20 will feature gameplay improvements and new features, such as superstar abilities for certain players, allowing them to make highlight-reel worthy plays. It's not just offensive players either. The defense will get in on the action as well. Hit the turf on August 2, 2019, available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
The Sims 4 Island Living Expansion Pack
Trade in the rush of the city life and relax on the tropical island of Sulani with the The Sims 4 Island Living Expansion Pack. Sims can lie down on the beach, enjoy water activities, or even become a conservationist to help keep the environment safe and secure. You can also have your Sim experience the cultural traditions of the island. You might even see some mermaids. The expansion is also more inclusive to all types of players. PC and Mac owners can purchase the expansion on June 21, 2019 while Xbox One and PS4 gamers will have to wait until July 16, 2019.
New Indie Game Studio Partnerships
EA announced that they'll be partnering up with three independent game studios:
