E3 2019: Nintendo Direct Recap

Like last year, Nintendo opted for a pre-recorded Nintendo Direct video instead of a live audience in a theater. Avoiding awkward moments and focusing fully on the games, Nintendo showcased upcoming games, as well as dropped a few surprises. Read on to find out what Nintendo has planned for the Switch.

A Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel is in the Works

Nintendo surprised the crowd by announcing that a sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently in development. Little details were shared, but the company reps played a trailer in which it appears Zelda and Link are going to have to deal with an undead Ganondorf, who comes to life.

A New Challenger Has Appeared!

Two new paid downloadable fighters are making their way to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The first character, available this summer, is Hero from the DRAGON QUEST series. Since Hero represents the main protagonist from several different games in the DRAGON QUEST series, he’ll have different character skins. Nintendo shared that Hero can take the form of the protagonist from DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, DRAGON QUEST III: The Seeds of Salvation, DRAGON QUEST IV: Chapters of the Chosen and DRAGON QUEST VIII: Journey of the Cursed King.

For the second character, available in the fall, Nintendo teased a familiar character’s silhouette, only to reveal that it was Duck Hunt. Fortunately, Nintendo escaped the wrath of unhappy gamers by giving them what they wanted, Banjo-Kazooie. Best known from the Nintendo 64 game, aptly named Banjo-Kazooie, the bear and bird combo have been working together, using an arsenal of acrobatic and egg-shooting moves to defeat enemies.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Returns with a New Look

Link returns in this remake of a classic Legend of Zelda game. Link embarks on an adventure on Koholint Island, where he’ll meet unusual locals, tricky puzzles, and imposing bosses. The game isn’t just a remake, though. There is a brand-new feature called Chamber Dungeons, which are challenging dungeons that you can arrange yourself by collecting Chambers. Nintendo announced that the game will be released on September 20, 2019. Launching alongside the game will be a new Link amiibo figure and a Dreamer Edition that comes with the game and the Dreamer Art Book.
