All the hoopla surrounding compact high-capacity devices has seriously revived the excitement in the hard-drive market, and with connections like Thunderbolt™ 3 and USB Type-C now commonplace, we are finally seeing some serious upgrades when it comes to storage. At NAB, Seagate and LaCie are contributing to this movement with a long-awaited update to the manufacturers’ rugged and portable RAID, which is now the Rugged RAID Pro. Slimmer than its predecessor, this 4TB drive offers vastly improved speed, with a maximum speed of 240 MB/s in RAID 0 and RAID 1. Also, it has LaCie’s signature orange bumper, designed by Neil Poulton, making this one of the safest options for on-location storage.
Featuring a USB Type-C connector, it will work with all the latest computers, including ones with Thunderbolt 3 ports. The drive is shock-, dust-, crush-, and water-resistant and comes with a three-year warranty with Rescue Data Recovery Services. All of this is quite standard for LaCie at this point, though, so now for the great new feature that will make this a great option for working in the field: an integrated SD card reader. Now you can quickly offload media without needing a variety of readers and adapters in your bag, and as someone with a 2016 MacBook Pro, I can seriously appreciate it.
If you are looking for a new, portable, durable storage solution, the LaCie Rugged RAID Pro is a great choice, especially with its rugged construction and RAID for data protection.
