The latest batch of Intel® 9th-generation “Core”™ desktop processors runs the gamut, ranging from an eight-core i9 powerhouse with Hyper-Threading to a lower-end i3 CPU that still manages to pack a quad-core punch. Designed for Intel® 300-series motherboards with LGA 1151 sockets, these 9th-generation chips can help your PC deliver buttery visuals when paired with a beefy graphics card. They can also boost the speed and performance of databases, virtual machines, 4K video processing, and other CPU-intensive applications.

Starting with the cream of the crop, the Core™ i9-9900 (which follows the unlocked i9-9900K) comes equipped with eight cores and 16 threads, courtesy of Intel® Hyper-Threading technology. Ideal for pro-video users, gamers, and content creators, the i9-9900 boasts a solid 3.1 GHz base clock speed that jumps to 5.0 GHz in Turbo Boost mode, plus a 16MB SmartCache.

Next up: the eight-core, eight-thread Core™ i7-9700, which lacks Hyper-Threading but still notches a 3.0 GHz base clock speed and a 4.7 GHz boost speed, all bolstered by a 12MB cache. While it’s a step down from the i9-9900, the i7-9700 still ranks as a solid choice for value-minded power users.

The mid-range i5-9400 holds its own with six cores, six threads, a 2.9 GHz clock speed that can hit 4.1 GHz with Turbo Boost enabled, and a 9MB cache.

Rounding out the list is the entry-level Core™ i3-9100, a quad-core processor that offers 3.6 GHz base clock speed, 4.2 boost speed, and a 6MB cache, proof that everyday users needn’t skimp on performance.

All the Core CPUs we just listed feature integrated graphics (including 4K video support) powered by Intel® UHD Graphics 630 technology, as well as support for Intel® Optane™ memory.
