The New Apple 9.7" iPad Now Supports Apple Pencil

While hosting an education event in Chicago, Apple announced the new Apple 9.7" iPad. Now with an updated A10 Fusion chip, Apple Pencil support, and a focus on augmented-reality apps, Apple improved its most popular iPad model.

While the Apple iPad still features the 9.7" Retina Display with a 2048 x 1536 resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi), the display now has a higher-resolution touch sensor that enables Apple Pencil support. First introduced with the iPad Pro, the Apple Pencil (sold separately) has become a popular, versatile tool among professionals and creatives, as well as students. The Apple Pencil delivers a fluid and natural drawing experience, thanks to its advanced sensors that measure the pressure, as well as the tilt. The accuracy and low latency of the Apple Pencil allows you to do anything from note taking to illustration, all of which can be done in apps like Notability, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and even Microsoft Office.

The Apple iPad also features the A10 Fusion chip. With 64-bit desktop-class architecture and four cores, the A10 Fusion chip delivers 40 percent faster processing and 50 percent faster graphics performance than its predecessor. The improved performance allows you to take full advantage of augmented reality (AR) apps. With the combination of the A10 Fusion chip, Retina display, 8MP rear camera, 1.2MP front FaceTime HD camera, and advanced sensors, such as the gyroscope and accelerometer, the Apple iPad can use augmented-reality apps to bring virtual objects into the real world. While more powerful than the A9 chip, the A10 Fusion chip still maintains its energy efficiency, allowing for up to 10 hours of use on Wi-Fi and up to 9 hours of use on 4G LTE.

The Apple iPad is available in Wi-Fi Only and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE models. Both models utilize dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi for fast Internet access. The Wi-Fi + 4G LTE models come with an Apple Nano SIM card that you can register with an approved cellular provider (data plan required and sold separately). With support for LTE bands worldwide, the Apple iPad becomes the ultimate traveling companion, with its support for wireless data plans in more than 180 countries and regions.

Touch ID gives you a simple yet secure way of unlocking your iPad, keep personal information private, even within apps, and approve purchases from the App and iTunes Store. iOS 11 is the installed operating system.
