The New WD My Cloud Home: Wireless Cloud Connectivity

0Share

If you've been noticing a trend in the expansion of wireless connectivity and mobile devices, it's not your imagination. Mobile phones, tablets, and laptops have empowered us to always be on the go and, to that end, wireless connectivity is becoming more and more integrated into what we do, with wired connectivity starting to take a backseat. To help us ensure that data on our mobile devices has a safe haven, WD presents us with the My Cloud Home Personal Cloud NAS Server. Available in capacities of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8TB, this single-bay storage solution plugs directly into your Wi-Fi router, allowing for the automatic backup of photo and video content from your phone, as well as the wireless backup and syncing of your Windows and Mac systems, along with any cloud accounts. While wired connectivity isn't as hip as it once was, there's still a need for it, and WD provides one USB 3.0 Type-A port so that users may import photos, videos, music, and documents from USB flash drives and external hard drives.

However, the functionality doesn't stop there. The My Cloud further touts its wireless prowess with WD's My Cloud app, which enables users to access, upload, and share content almost anywhere there is a network connection. If you have videos stored on your My Cloud and want to access them from a remote location, Plex Media Server makes that possible.

WD's My Cloud Home is compatible with Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices. It is powered by a 1.4 GHz Quad-Core processor and 1GB of DDR3L memory. If you like what the My Cloud has to offer, but have greater storage, requirements, check out the My Cloud Home Duo, which is a two-bay system that is available in capacities of 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20TB.
