Unveiled: Drobo 5C Storage Bay USB 3.0

0Share

For those looking to bring the performance and capabilities of the Drobo “5” series to their USB Type-C system, the Drobo 5C 5-Bay USB 3.0 Type-C Enclosure will be welcomed with open arms. Designed from the ground up to be a secure storage array, the 5C is equipped with five 3.5" SATA drive bays that support both SATA III 6 Gb/s and SATA II 3 Gb/s hard drives. Using separately sold drive carriers, the 5C is able to support 2.5" hard drives and SSDs. It will connect to your system using its lone USB 3.0 Type-C port, which transfers data at speeds up to 5 Gb/s.

The Drobo 5C helps facilitate data protection using Drobo’s BeyondRAID technology, which enables single or dual-drive redundancy. Additional data protection is provided using the built-in rechargeable battery, which helps protect data stored in the 5C’s memory or cache. If there were to be a sudden power loss, the battery allows the Drobo to stay powered long enough for the cached data to be written to an included internal SSD.

As USB Type-C is not yet completely widespread, a USB Type-C to Type-A cable is included, allowing the 5C to be used on systems with traditional USB Type-A ports, and a USB Type-C to Type-C cable will have to be purchased separately. While coverage is provided by a limited 1-year warranty within the USA or outside the EU, or a limited 2-year warranty within the EU, this coverage may be extended using the 1-Year DroboCare Renewal Warranty or the 3-Year DroboCare Renewal Warranty.

For Windows and Mac users looking for fast and reliable storage for general use, the Drobo 5C is a worthy option.
