When you think of entering information into your computer, you naturally think of your keyboard and mouse as the input devices. That is so last year. The new wave of input is through a digitizer—a digital tablet that allows you to input not just notes, but freehand sketches, designs, paintings, and a myriad host of other creative ideas.
Pen tablets present a slight learning curve. You don’t just buy a pen tablet and suddenly become adept at every single swipe and command. It takes a creative mind to unleash the power of a pen tablet, and no one gives you that power in so many ways than Wacom’s Intuos brand.
Wacom is now announcing six new tablets in their lineup, including tablets for everything from personal use to professional productivity. Each tablet lets you mimic the look, feel, and pressure sensitivity of traditional brushes and pencils, while giving you a palette of different styles and textures to choose from. It allows you to take your sketching and drawing to a whole new digital level while keeping you connected to the power of your computer.
The small CTL480-Intuos Creative Pen Tablet, for instance, measures only 8.25 x 6.9 x .4 inches, with an active area of 6 x 3.7 inches, making it the perfect companion for everyday use. It has four customizable ExpressKeys and includes a battery-free, 1,024-point-pressure-sensitive pen and a software bundle with Autodesk Sketchbook Express and ArtRage Studio. There’s also a separately available kit that lets you go wireless with the unit.
The small CTH480 Intuos Creative Pen & Touch Tablet is designed for use with Adobe Photoshop Elements (which is included) along with Autodesk Sketchbook Express, ArtRage Studio, and Nik Color Efex Pro. This USB-connected unit also has a battery-free pen with two switches, and the same dimensions as the CTL480. It also can be upgraded to a wireless unit with an optional package.
Looking for something a little bigger to really let your artistic side loose? The medium-sized CTH680 - Intuos Creative Pen & Touch Tablet measures 10.8 x 8.8 x .4 inches, with an active area of 8.5 x 5.3 inches. It includes productivity software that will enhance your digital creations, like Adobe Photoshop Elements, Nik Color Efex Pro WE3, Corel Painter Lite, and Autodesk SketchBook Express. Like its smaller siblings, it also includes a 1,024-point-pressure-sensitive, battery-free pen with two switches, application-specific ExpressKeys, and USB connectivity.
Stepping it up a level is the large PTH851- Intuos Pro Professional Pen & Touch Tablet, which measures 19.1 x 12.5 x .60 inches and has an active area of 12.8 x 8.0 inches, providing a broader canvas for your creative skills. The Intuos Pro Large even detects the software you’re using and offers certain selections. It’s ergonomically designed for both left- and right-handed use, and also includes a software bundle with Adobe Photoshop Elements, Anime Studio Debut, Autodesk Sketchbook Express, Nik Color Efex Pro Select Edition, and a trial version of Corel Painter. This version comes equipped with the wireless kit that is optional on the other versions. The Intuos Grip Pen has 2,048 points of pressure sensitivity, replacement pen tips, and a multi-function touch ring that allows intuitive control of scrolling, brush size, and more. It also comes in a smaller and more compact version, the PTH451 Intuos Pro Professional Pen & Touch Tablet. The smaller size measures 12.5 x 8.1 x .45 inches with an active area of 6.2 x 3.9 inches.
Intuous also comes in medium versions for professional who can’t give up the desk space. The medium PTH651 Intuos Pro Professional Pen & Touch Tablet measures 14.9 x 9.9 x .45 inches, and includes the same 2,048-point-pressure-sensitive pen, full software bundle, and the wireless kit. If space is at a premium on your desk, there is also a smaller bundle, the PTH451 Intuos Pro Professional Pen & Touch Tablet. It measures 12.5 x 8.1 x .45 inches with an active area of 6.2 x 3.9 inches. It also includes the 2048 pen, software bundle and wireless kit.
If you use your computer for more than playing Angry Birds or checking FaceBook, you should look into the input options of a Wacom Intuos tablet. They’re fun, productive, and they free your mind and let your fingers follow.
