The lumbering beast was shot while panning with a slow shutter speed to give some sense of speed by blurring the background and with the lens stopped down to keep as much as the foreground as possible in focus. That worked as expected, but the junk in the foreground completely ruined the image. It would be nice to reflect on the mystical artistic process involved. It would also be disingenuous. This was a purely practical effort to save a photo of a rare event.
