This is the first drone photo ever taken of a fissure eruption in Hawaii during the latest Leilani eruption. Literally taken minutes after the first fissure erupted on May 3, 2018, i was in the right place at the right time. My 4 year old son Nico Where is there with me and helped me put the propellers on the drone before flying it up to get a view of this very first fissure. We had come there to see it only minutes after it happened but from the road it was not visible. Lucky For us I had the drone there and we got it in the air as quickly as possible to snap this photo literally only minutes after this once in a-lifetime eruption was beginning. What you are looking at is the top of a native Ohia tree canopy with uluhe ferns all around, and the first fissure crack spitting out lava into the forest. Truly an unduplicable moment
