To capture all the vivid colors in the sunset over Haleakala Crater on Maui I had to under expose. I used Photoshop to bring more detail and color saturation into the sky and highlight areas while still keeping noise in the shadows to a minimum. I had several versions of this image on different layers. One for highlights, one adjusted for shadows. I dodge and burn as needed. I didn't have a tripod.
