I went to Switzerland this January and was planning on getting a photograph of the Matterhorn reflected in the lake, but didn't even think about it being covered with snow that time of year (details, haha).
When I got off the train to do a bit of mountaineering, I started my trek, but didn't have the above realization until half way there. Instead, I found a remote spot (Which is difficult to do in the ski season) and waited for, what turned out to be, an amazing sunset.
I stacked several images together to give the foreground the sharpness exposure it needed, as well as replacing the sky with an image about 5 minutes later so I could get the color of the sunset in the sky.
