If you have a Sonos One or Sonos Beam and would rather use the Google Assistant than Amazon Alexa, you can now do so. Google Assistant functionality originally went live via free software updates in the US in May, and is set to roll out to select other countries by the end of July, including Canada, Germany, the UK, Australia, and more, with additional countries to follow, according to Sonos.
While these devices already had Amazon Alexa built in, users can now choose which assistant they’d like to use via the Sonos app. You can even have one Sonos device use the Google Assistant while the other is set up for Amazon Alexa; please note, though, that one device can’t use both assistants simultaneously.
What does this mean for you? It means you can now ask Alexa to start your music playlist in the kitchen while you’re cooking, then settle down in the living room and ask the Google Assistant on your Beam to tell your compatible smart TV to start streaming YouTube videos.
So, if you’re considering buying a virtual assistant speaker, now seems like a good time. Come into the B&H SuperStore to try out what we have on display, or contact us by phone at 800-606-6969, chat, or email for friendly, knowledgeable advice.
