Everyday Carry Essentials: Brett Smith

0Share

Like many people, my everyday carry items revolve largely around work: the things I need for my daily commute or the items that help me perform my job more effectively. I spend a lot of time writing and researching, so I need items that facilitate both. Plus, my time on the subway isn’t inconsequential or without challenges, so I need gear to help me along the way. To get me through it all, here are my essential everyday carry items.

Apple iPhone X

Regardless of who you or are what you do, most people benefit from a smartphone. For me, it’s the iPhone X. Mostly, I use it to text, listen to music, and stay connected, but if some other issue or demand arises, it’s rare that my iPhone can’t help resolve it. Without question, it’s the most important item everyday carry item I own.

Nintendo Switch

Besides my phone, there is only one item on my list that travels with me pretty much everywhere I go: my Nintendo Switch. Now, while I understand those who keep their Switches on hand strictly for entertainment purposes, for me, it’s more of a necessity. On any given day, I spend around two hours on the subway, which, for someone who is prone to anxiety episodes when confined in tight spaces, can be problematic. But when I have my Switch, I’m able to stave off those episodes because I’m so invested in the game I’m playing. To and from work, it helps me enjoy a panic-free subway ride. Also, I like to carry it with me at all times so I can beat the brakes off my coworkers at Smash Bros. Looking at you, Steiner.

Apple iPad Pro

While I consider the other everyday carry items on my list as necessities, the iPad Pro is closer to an obsession. I do everything on my Pro: I write, I watch movies, I draw. Before I got my Switch, my iPad Pro was the cure to my travel anxiety. And, if I’m lucky enough to get a seat on the train, drawing on it is still my go-to distraction. Everyday carry items are all about helping you thrive, and the iPad Pro helps me more than any other item in my bag.

Beats by Dre Powerbeats3

Over the years, I’ve acquired a decent collection of headphones. Some I use for traveling, others for running; I have a different pair for the gym and another I like for gaming. But the headphones I carry with me every day are my Powerbeats3. I’ve written before about how much I love these earbuds for working out, especially during more intense sessions like HIIT training and long runs. But I also use them as my everyday headphones because they check so many boxes: they sound good, they’re comfortable, and they travel easily. Yes, sometimes I pack my Bose® when I’m planning on watching a movie or TV show, or other times I need something with noise cancellation, but my Powerbeats3 never leave my bag.

ANKER PowerPort

Apart from being necessities, the majority of my everyday carry items all share something in common: they require battery power. That’s why I always keep my ANKER PowerPort in my bag. I take care to try and plug in all my electronics at work or home, but sometimes I forget, or the commute is long, or I just need a little extra juice. That’s when my PowerPort comes in handy.

Apart from the obnoxious (but necessary!) number of skincare products I have on me at all times, these are my essential everyday carry items. They help every aspect of my day, whether it’s on the train, at the gym, work, or anywhere in between. Of course, my everyday carry items are particular to my needs and interests, so they probably differ somewhat from yours, but we’d love to hear what’s in your pack.
