The 5 Best True Wireless Earbuds

0Share

The advent of true wireless earbuds has been a godsend for those of us who prize portability and convenience above all else. Also, anyone who hates that feeling of a connection cable dancing across the back of your neck. If you haven’t yet experienced the joy and freedom of true wireless audio, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorites wireless earbuds for you to consider.

Apple AirPods

In many ways, the original AirPods are the standard bearer for what true wireless earbuds should be: no wires, obviously, secure fit, and good sound quality. You can also credit them for having solid battery life (up to five hours on a single charge) and a very sleek design. The second-generation AirPods took all those features and improved upon them by incorporating Apple’s new H1 chip, which boosts specs across the board and adds “Hey Siri” functionality to the mix. AirPods are Apple-branded, so they work best with iOS devices, but you can use them with most other Bluetooth-enabled devices as well—though, admittedly, with a reduced feature set.

Samsung Galaxy Buds

Similar to the AirPods, the Galaxy Buds are optimized for Android devices (e.g., the Galaxy S-series), but will work with almost any Bluetooth-compatible device, including iPhones. Regardless of which phone you’re using, the Galaxy Buds offer excellent audio quality, thanks to their AKG-tuned drivers. They also have one of the best battery life ratings on our list—up to seven hours off a single full charge. Top it off with features like Bixby integration and Enhanced Ambient Sound mode, and the Galaxy Buds make a legitimate claim for being the best overall true wireless earbuds—especially for Android users.

PowerBeats Pro

For athletes, runners, and other active users, the PowerBeats Pro from Dr. Dre are a true revelation. With solid sound quality similar to the PowerBeats3, the PowerBeats Pro offer a bass-thumping, heart-racing, adrenaline-fueling music experience, only without the connector cable. The adjustable ear hooks are comfortable and fit securely, so you’ll never worry about them falling out or coming loose. Another workout-friendly feature is that the PowerBeats Pro are both sweat and waterproof—so you don’t have to worry about damaging them no matter how hard you go. Add to all of that a best-in-class 9-hour battery life, and the PowerBeats Pro are easily one of the best wireless earbuds available today.

Sennheiser Momentum

Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless Earbuds are the sound giant’s first foray into the true wireless earbud arena, and, in terms of sound quality, they nailed it. With bona fides like multi-codec support (SBC, AAC, aptX, etc.), Bluetooth 5.0, and dynamic 7mm drivers, the Momentum earbuds deliver arguably the best listening experience on our list. However, if you are looking for the best overall pair of true wireless earbuds, you might be better off with a different set. The Momentum earbuds, while at the top of the list when it comes to audio quality, don’t fare quite as well in categories like battery life (4 hours is fine, but it’s not exceptional). But again, if sound quality is your top concern, then the Momentum earbuds are great solution.

Bose® SoundSport Free

The last spot on our list goes to an audio company that’s no stranger to “best-of” lists: Bose®. The company's SoundSport Free™ Wireless In-Ear Headphones have a lot of positives going for them despite the fact they eschew the conventional slimmed-down design of other earbuds. They are, admittedly, a little bulkier than the rest of our list, but that bulk delivers big sound quality and solid battery life. The SoundSport Free™ earbuds also offer a very secure fit, thanks to their proprietary StayHear+ Sport tips. Reassurance that your headphones won’t fall out can’t be overstated when it comes to true wireless earbuds, so count that as a major positive for the SoundSport Free™ buds. Rounding out these buds’ positive features are IPX4 water resistance, a user-friendly app, built-in mic, and handy on-device controls, making the SoundSport Free™ one of the top overall pair of true wireless earbuds.
