Apple Debuts New Watch Series 3

7Share

Apple unveiled the next generation of Apple Watch today—the Series 3—which improves upon the functionality, connectivity, and application of its popular predecessors. Chief among the Series 3’s upgrades is built-in cellular connectivity, which will allow users to stay connected to the world without needing their iPhones.

Apple also continued to build upon the Watch’s signature fitness capabilities, adding new heart-rate-monitoring features, smart coaching, and other wellness applications that are designed to make the Series 3 the perfect health companion regardless of workout, fitness level, or lifestyle. Of these upgrades, one of the most notable is the new barometric altimeter, which will improve the Watch’s ability to track your outdoor activity, elevation gain, and the number of flights of stairs climbed accurately. Like the Series 2, the new Apple Watch retains its GPS capability and water resistance up to 164', so users can expect the same great fitness support as before, and then some.

Cellular connectivity and fitness enhancements aside, the new Apple Watch also boasts a long list of design upgrades. On the software side, the Series 3 will be running the improved watchOS 4, which aims to boost performance and user interface, including enhancements to Siri, workout applications, and the ability to stream songs from Apple Music. Powering the Series 3 is a new dual-core S3 chip, which, working alongside Apple’s just-debuted W2 wireless chip, delivers significantly faster performance times without impinging upon the Watch’s all-day battery life.

Like its predecessor, the new Apple Watch is available in a variety of colors in both aluminum and stainless steel cases. It’s also available in the brand-new variant, gold aluminum. All case and color designs will pair well with the long list of assorted band colors and styles, including new models from the Apple Watch Nike+ lineup.

The new Apple Watch Series 3 will be available in stainless steel or aluminum, in a variety of colors and band designs, with or without cellular capability.

Is the Series 3 on your wish list? Tell us why, in the Comments section, below.

Will the watch work in different countries and different carriers??

i have an unlocked iPhone7. When I am in europe I use a local carrier on my phone.

Will my watch follow?   I know in Europe allow dual sims for the same number but I don't think the watch takes a simm card or does it? Does anybody know?

The Apple Watch Series 3 cellular currently will only work in select countries with select networks.  Please see the link below with which carriers are compatible at the moment.

The Apple Watch Series 3 does not have a sim card.  It has an electronic sim built in and would be linked to your service.

Absolutely NOT my wish list.  Am I the only one with Apple fatigue?  We don't need a new release every time three consecutive clouds fly overhead.

Agreed. They keep on making the watch obsolete. Not a good strategy when watches last for decades.

Absolutely on my wish list. When will it be available for order at B&H? I'm going to be upgrading from the original (pre-series 1) and I'm very much so looking forward to the huge speed benefits from this upgrade. I'll actually be able to use 3rd party Watch apps without waiting minutes for them to load!

Yes! The Apple Watch Series 3 should be available for pre-orders Sept. 15th.
