Just announced is a pair of classic and retro sunglasses from Bose®, not exactly what you would expect from them. However, the Alto and Rondo Frames are a bit more than just glasses because they contain some advanced audio tech that transforms them into wearables with open-ear audio—meaning no buds or cans in or over your ears. Bose® also states that while users will receive crystal-clear audio from their devices via Bluetooth, the sound is isolated so that others won’t be listening in to your tunes. That, and you will look great while wearing them and enjoy UVA/UVB protection from the sun.
Bose® already nails audio, so let’s talk about the other important aspect of these frames: their look. Constructed from metal hinges and nylon rims, these glasses will match up with many other popular frames on the market. There are also two styles: the Alto has a more classic look with sharper angles and a larger overall fit, while the Rondo has the retro and now in-vogue rounded lenses and a condensed fit. Customers can pick whichever they find more flattering or fashionable. In addition to this, while black tint is standard, Bose® will be offering Blue Gradient, Mirrored Silver, and Mirrored Rose Gold lenses, which can be quickly and easily installed to change the look of your shades.
As for audio, the name Bose® does give us confidence that these will sound great. The open-ear audio system uses miniature Bose® speakers, and uniquely engineered acoustic chambers deliver audio to your ear with an absolute minimum of leakage. You don’t even need to place anything in or over your ears to enjoy your music. A microphone is built-in, as well, to answer phone calls or control a digital assistant. A single button is used to operate the Frames and will be able to control power, playback, handle phone calls, or signal your device’s digital assistant.
Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity makes it almost universally compatible with today’s devices, and the Bose® Frames are rated for up to 3.5 hours of playback or 12 hours of standby while taking two hours to charge. Finally, the Bose® Frames are Bose® AR enabled, meaning they will support the Bose® Connect™ app and other compatible offerings on iOS to enjoy a brand-new audio experience. This could mean delivering audio based on the position of your head via a 9-axis motion sensor or use location data to tailor audio content to your current activities.
