With the new LG G Flex 2, LG doesn't want you to have to choose between pleasing aesthetics and powerful performance; the company believes you can have one device that skillfully offers both. The G Flex 2 has been introduced at this year's CES and features the same curved design we saw in the original LG G Flex. While opinions may vary on the need for a curved smartphone, LG wanted to buck the boxy trend and develop a smartphone that feels natural in the hand. While the design principles remain the same, there are a few technical upgrades of note in this year's model.
The new Flex 2 features a slightly smaller 5.5 inch P-OLED screen, compared to the original Flex's 6-inch screen. While the slightly smaller screen may sound like a downgrade at first, resolution has been stepped up from its predecessor, now offering a much-welcomed 1080p resolution, as supposed to 720p. Processing performance has received some attention as well, and the new LG Flex 2 will come equipped with an 8-core Snapdragon 810 chipset; this highly anticipated chipset consists of dual quad-core CPUs. All that power can drain battery life pretty quickly, which is why LG outfitted this smartphone with a 3000 mAh battery. The battery also offers Fast Charge technology, which is designed to charge up to 50% in about 40 minutes. It's also worth mentioning that the battery is not removable.
While the rear camera resolution remains the same at 13 megapixels, this new shooter adds optical image stabilization. Thankfully, many smartphone manufacturers are paying a great deal of attention to camera performance. Other notable features include a microSD interface, Bluetooth 4.1 with Apt-X compatibility, and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity. As expected with top-tier smartphones released this year, the LG Flex 2 is expected to ship with Android Lollipop preinstalled.
